Default guess the mystery object.....

just bought a nearly new WRX wagon originally supplied via Cyprus by Alliance Imports, been poking around in the boot and found on top of the spare wheel a black bag containing a bubblewrap parcel in which there are front and back halves of a sort of metal box, and a white plastic thing with electrical connections on it. To satisfy my curiousity I rang the guy I bought it off, he said it was there from new, he had no idea what it was, suggested I ring Alliance which I did, they said it was for mounting the spare wheel (???) I'm wondering if it might be an uninstalled tracker - never having seen a tracker, I might be well off the mark. Anyone got any ideas? It's really bugging me! (just hope that someone doesn't point out to me that full explanation is on page 31 of the Impreza owners manual....) Here's a picture:

no sign of any part numbers - so I guess that suggests it's not a Subaru part?

Cue tomorrow's headlines in the Sun - 'Aliens planted mystery device in my car boot...'

The jack is indeed in a compartment to the left of the boot, and the handle is clipped to the underside of the hardboard sheet that covers the spare wheel, underneath the boot carpet.

No idea what that box is for though - it's certainly not meant to be there. Chances are the dealer just randomly threw it in there and forgot about it. There's probably someone in Cyprus right now desperate for it... whatever it is

This has been covered a couple of times before IIRC.

AFAIK it's a bracket for the alarm system that is fitted in the UK, as Euro imports don't get the Sigma alarm it is usually junked by the supplying dealer.
