There are plenty of owners around and about of jap imports and no the engines dont go pop unless you mistreat them big style. In effect they are pretty similar to the UK cars but with a little more grunt

I guess for that money you could have a UK sti7 or maybe STi8 with PPP which gives 305bhp. But there wont be much difference in either I shouldnt think.
Sounds ok though.
Its a buyers market for sure. Have a look in the for sale section on here and you will see what you can get for your money.

IIRC,
A version 7 JDM scoob is the round headlight (bugeye) and in which case I would say £17k is a bit steep. There are people selling 2003 JDM STi's (STi9/10) for around £19k which has a lot more features.
You need to be careful with the numbering as it can get confusing. When the V7 came out in japan the UK did not get one. When the UK got the STi people started calling it the V7. By that time Japan was onto another model which in number terms you would call the V8. It can get very confusing!
HTH.
Anyone correct me if I am wrong.
Damian.

i have a sti ppp uktype 52plate (bug eye) which has 305bhp,299ft lb of torque,0-60 in 4.6 secs and 0-100 in 12.2 secs very nice car had it a few weeks now, ive come from a evo6rsx 350bhp and i would say this is a better all round car, very quick off the mark (cant believe i'm saying this after 5 years of evo ownership) i paid 17k but mine is the wr blue car with the big spioler on the back

iam sure that there was a couple of jap spec sti in the car for sale section b4 xmas for around 14k-15k.
i would not pay 17k for a bugeye when a blobeye can be had for a little more.
btw
the jap cars get more goodies and more bhp than there uk counterparts.
cheers
