Default STi / STi RA / STi R Help

I am interested in importing one of the above, preferably a Type R but am struggling to find a 1996 STi III Type R to avoid ESVA problems with importing.....

Do they exist, or are they just 1997 onwards???

Can anyone tell me the main differences between an RA and R (apart from the obvious ones like the shell)?

How do the STi and the STi RA / R compare?

Does anyone know from experience rough prices for importing them?

Thanks

There are some but theyre very few and far between. I have seen 3 or 4 '96 Type R's at the most and Im certain that theyll sell for a lot more than the going rate for the reason that you mention. I can tell you what a '97 Type R / STI Type R will sell for, but at a live auction an early car will probably exceed that by a substantial amount. I wouldnt hold out a deal of hope if I were you.

Will keep looking.....it'll be a few months before I can get one anyway..... and if nothing comes up then I may have to go for the RA instead

....test drove an R last month though and fell in love with it!!!!

also tried to test drive one out at Calders (edinburgh)....but when I popped the bonnet there was no engine in it!!! Apparently they needed it for another car....but would happily put a new one in if I was interested in it....hmmmm

They cant get what hes looking for though; '96 build Type R's are as rare as rocking horse ****. I have access to, I believe, every decent auction in Japan myself, I dont rely on a buyer finding what Im looking for, and I havent even seen one for over 8 months.

My apologies; I will let you know but Im not sure what you would be able to do about it as it will be in an auction the following day in Japan; their time, which is 9 hours ahead.

Regards

Try Andy or Pete at JVS in Loanhead near you : they regularly visit the auctions in Japan.
Check here :

and you could post here (their own new forum) for a quick answer :

depends on the model year. There are more than one set of gear ratio's used in the TypeRA's
