Default *** MY99-00 Owners - Filter/Induction Kit Poll ***

I would appreciate your responses to the above poll, please reply to the thread if you've anything to add, I'm trying to get an overall feel for whether changing the standard filter is a reasonable and safe thing to do.

Regards

Yeah reasonable and safe if you have a couple of grand spare
to repl the short motor after the MAf goes hay wire and causes the
fueling to go lean thus burning a nice big hole in no 4 piston !
First hand experience ! " you just cant bet it "

UK MY99 with full de-cat and Rampod induction kit - 20k no issues

My MAF did fail, but that was using the APS CAI kit (not noticed until the Link was replaced with the standard ECU)

Ran a MY00 with a full de-cat and K&N induction kit for 6 months with no issues.

Mate had a cone filter on a year without any trouble, mates just had maf go down after 2 engine rebuilds with std airbox on as it doesnt always bring the faultcode up untill its totally f*cked, luckily subaru warranties have picked up the bill both times(this last time they replaced the maf) you can pick mafs up for around 80 quid so if you suspect it bein faulty or if you can get it checked just replace it, thinkin of doin it every couple of year 2b honest lol beats the price of a rebuild, but to date no probs on mine, just the luck of the draw really. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...obymad/eb2.jpg

Imported a heavily modified my99 sti earlier this year, apexi cone - however the decat was removed at SVA, have just installed full "thro" 3" bespoke Group A exhaust - but only have done so after purchasing a GEMS which will allow remapping.

The car had a MAF fault when imported, I also repeatedly get a CEL indicating Lambda and MAF problem. I have drove her very steady - not wanting to risk problems
