New car, New Member, Have I missed anything?
Hey all,
I've been a lurker over the last few weeks, gaining some vital information about all things Impreza
I picked up my Black WRX, MY05 Euro Import from Motorpoint last Tuesday and have had a permanent grin on my face since then. I take it this lasts forever?

The car is alarmed + trackered as fitted by motorpoint, and I've added a set of WRX mats. Ok I paid £65 for them, I'm a sucker, but Subaru could sell me a turd on a plate if it had their logo on it at the moment. I got a set of Subaru Locking wheel nuts earlier on too, but not had a chance to fit them. Slightly sceptical about them as the ends don't look anything like the nuts on the wheels at the moment, and I don't want to waste the look of the wheels. Ok, maybe that's overkill.
I'm waiting on a Blitz R-Vit arriving (£200 new from eBay, result) as I figured it was cheaper and cooler than a full gauge set.
I'll be adding a decent stereo in the new year, possibly an in-car PC for MP3 Jukebox and GPS use.
So have I missed anything vitally important that I need to add to the car?

Welcome and very nice! First 05 Iv'e seen in black (although my wr blue is faster- FSO)!
It would seem you've got it covered (I assume it's been registred with IM for cross border warranty and service?- easy to do if not) Oh and take it easy until first sevice <4k rpm!
One thing I would do personally is remove the motorpoint sticker from rear window!
Are the grins for performance or the saving you've made?

Yeah, the motorpoint sticker is on my minor list. Maybe a nicer tax disc holder too.
As far as security goes it's got a cat 1 and a tracker. Other than an armed escort I can't think of anything else.
Under 4,000rpm. Hmm. Yes. ..... I have been MOSTLY good with it so far. Certainly no redlining, and 99% of the driving has been under 4000. But it's just so tempting to listen to that turbo spooling and watching the country slide by at ever increasing frequency.
Luckily there's a Shell station on my way to and from work. Although it had a tankfull of BP's cheapest at first as motorpoint had given me enough to get me out of the carpark
Not sure who/what IM is, but Motorpoint did tell me it came with a 3 year manufacturer's warranty as they'd sorted out whatever the issue with Subaru was. They wouldn't have got the business otherwise.

I would hit the backbox, centre sections and air filter first mate. Unleash the bigger beast that's waiting to get out!!! After you run the engine in that is...

Right, not sure about the IM thing. It came with an EC certificate of conformity, but I can't see anything about the warranty in any of my documents.
So how do I check that its registered with IM then?

The original invoice from the country where the car was purchased needs to be faxed to IM, this along with CoC to validate the pan-euro warranty.
BTW- Car is stunning.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for motorpoint to supply and fit your alarm and tracker system? Which tracker system did you buy? Do you go down as being the first owner of the vehicle or the second?

Performance, ignore everybody and get a ppp fitted for around 1600
Or

I'll need to speak to motorpoint then. I don't have the original invoice, so maybe they've already registered it with IM. I suppose if they told me when I bought it that it had a 3 year warranty then they'd likely arrange that.
I didn't get the warranty and service book with the car. I'll probably need to get that too. Suppose I better arrange all of this before the first service.
I paid £600-650ish for the Alarm and the Tracker (just tracker retrieve). The car ended up being about £17,400 all in. Still a good saving, and pretty much the limit of what I could spend, if not slightly more. Worth it though. Oh yes.
Maybe not the cheapest (including Alarm and Tracker) I'll grant you, but Motorpoint in Glasgow is only 10 minutes along the road, and I'd rather have dealt with them instead of a company 3 or 400 miles away, or an internet only shop.
I believe I'll be the 2nd owner, Motorpoint being the first. I don't have the reg document through yet.
Moving SWIFTLY on to performance. From what I've experienced with the performance so far then "more than impressed" springs to mind. I'm still running it in obviously, but even taking it fairly gently it is easily the best car I've ever driven. I'll definetly not be making any descisions for the next few months anyway.
The PPP certainly interests me though. I'm not really interested in lots of warranty voiding upgrades on a new car. I take it PPP increases fuel consumption, insurance costs? How about maintenance costs? One thing I would like is a better exhaust note. I noticed the PPP comes with the WR Sport one. I might need to find out how good that sounds.
I don't want something that will wake up the whole neighbourhood, but something a bit beefier might be nice.
My only slight niggle with the car at the moment is there being a slight rattle coming from the rear. It sounds like glass against metal, but I can't pinpoint it, and it doesn't happen all the time.
Other than the sound system being pretty poor

Cleaning. Advice needed. Obviously it's a black car. A gift and indeed a curse. Should I be doing anything sooner rather than later to aid with keeping it looking great.
What's the best cleaning products and methods to go for? I'm looking at this swissol stuff and it seems tremendously expensive, but is it worth it? I was thinking of the Samurai starter kit.
We've got access to a decent pressure hose at work that they use for cleaning the company cars, but I have no idea what soap is used, and there's obviously no cloths or such like available.
Next: Mudflaps/Splash Gaurds. Worth the money? I'm liking the look of the ones that Scoobyworld or Scotts Automotive sell, purely asthetically, but do they genuinely provide decent protection from dirt/spray etc., obviously keeping the car looking better.
And are they easy to fit. They claim they are, the scoobyworld ones even claim to have genuine subaru fixing parts. Are we talking a wheels off and drills at the ready sort of job, or is it easy as screwing a couple of bolts into place?
The car is due for its 1000 mile service fairly soon obviously, and I could get them done then, but the genuine parts seem a bit on the pricey side, hell the scotts and the scoobyworld ones are pretty pricey too.
And finally, speaking of the 1000 mile service. How much do they usually come in at?

Get some armour fend paint protecting film.
Get mud flaps but don't waste precious modding money on stupid £500 STI flaps
They should be a few simple trim clips to fit.
You've probably done more than 20 miles so giving it a good thrash advice won't be applicable now (I would have told you to thrash it but take it easy on the brakes). This would be contrary to what everyone else will tell you and you probably wouldn't beleive me anyway.

Cant be bothered to read the whole thread but if it hasn't been said then make sure the oil is changed at the 1000 mile sevice. The car is supplied with thick oil to start with and that is changed to proper tackle at the 1K mark, hence the price.
Also if the car is serviced at a non scooby garage make sure they know the correct wheel nut torques and stick to them. If you dont the consequences can be bad.
