Nostalgic things from the past
A number of years ago and Brunters in the snow.... Simon, Stef (CossieKiller) and myself. Extracts taken from write up of the day many moons ago.
Regards,
Shaun.
And who said that the snow puts stop to having fun in your turboed 4x4?????
What happens when you are given the chance to do a photo shoot, on a deserted proving ground.............when you have 2ft of snow, as far as the eye can see?????.........BIG SMILES all round!
Three cars traveled up to Bruntingthorpe (me in my Escort Cossie, Simon de Banke in his Scooby STi and Stef in his UK Scooby), on a peaceful, sunny, snow covered afternoon, not fully realising what fun they were about to encounter.
We arrived at Bruntingthorpe seeing NOTHING but snow, snow & even more snow!! The place was so peaceful, you could hear a pin drop......but with a combined power figure of 850 bhp, that was about to change! The backdrop was absolutely awesome, with 3 mega cars ready to rock & roll.
First up was Simon "de sideways" Banke, in his Subaru Impreza STi Type R.
If he aint going sideways, he aint interested ..... get me drift (pardon the pun!). Simon showed us his stuff, controlling the car with ease and agility, something that seemed quite strange to me considering the amount of snow and ice under foot! The power slides and pendulums, were an absolute spectacle. With a constant plume of snow behind the car.....this was heaven to watch!!!!!! Forget figure skating, they should make THIS an Olympic event.
After watching Simon do his stuff, both Stef and I were gagging to have ago!!
Second up was Stef "the cossie killer" Bleeder, in his Subaru Impreza UK.
Stef being Stef, got straight down to action with some doughnuts. Not looking quite as technically correct as it would do on a dry surface, this was an awesome site, with all 4 wheels spitting and spraying snow everywhere. After this short spasm of excitement, Stef attempted the power sliding and pendulum tricks. Considering this was his first attempt, he picked the control up very well!........and this was with 2ft of snow!
Last up was me, in my Ford Escort Cosworth.
All I can say is awesome. I was so amazed at how much grip I had. People think snow=no grip, WRONG! It was also relatively easy to control as well. Power slides and pendulums, just seem to come natural. It wasn't so much the car control that looked good, it was the effect of the snow that made it such an awesome sight!
I have now found my groundhog day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Along with the joy and fun of doing this in the snow, both Stef and I learnt a great deal from Simon on car control. This is the ideal place and conditions!!!!!!! When we going again Simon??????? :-) Something that these still pictures don't convey, was the true spectacle. Some digital video footage was taken, and will be made available shortly.
Regards,
Shaun.
