Qs on GX 2.0 impreza
Hi im interested in buying a newish impreza (2001+) but am new to this type of car. I have ruled out buying a turbo because of price and insurance. So have decided on GX. This might sound silly to you experts but what is difference between this car and a WRX (plate 01 + ) becos they look the same.
Another silly Q is iv seen Subaru Impreza GX 2.0's advertised as "GX 2.0 SPORT". Is this the same thing?

The main difference between a GX and a WRX is 100bhp. The GX has a few other changes in the engine, ie single cams per bank not twin. 15 inch wheels,
Less pots on brakes. The new ones have 16's but a 01-03 does have 15's. It does however have a hill holder clutch which is actually very good. The GX Sport was a tarted up version to help sell off some 03's. I Can't remember all the details but I think there was a high spoiler on it.
They are a nice car, but don't expect to much of it. They are a big car with 4wd which does take a fair bit of power. I had one for a couple of years and had no complaints, it has a good ride is comfortable and does handle very well, as it has the same AWD system as the WRX & STI.
The one big plus is the stereo is better.

I simply love the look of this car and only modification would be an STI Spoiler, 17s & a good sound system. I'd be more than chuffed with it. Just outa curiousity what would the BHP be on this car.

I am running a MY52 Gx Sport
Smatt has just about hit the nail on the head with his description of the car.
There is a forum which is mostly for N/A Scoobys, come over for a look.
The standard bhp is 125 on the newer versions but mine is running around 133bhp with an aftermarket back box fitted.

I agree, Back box & a decent air filter. It will make so much difference, combined with some 17's, you will have a nice car. I personally think that a bug eye looks better without the air scoop, well mine did in mica red.
Also the black is a very nice colour, I have seen a couple recently and have been very imprezed.

Not sure about what mods are available, but you'll find with a few mods fitted the insurance will start going up. You could end up paying a similar amount to insure a modified GX than it would have cost to get a WRX in the first place.
Have you had quotes for insuring a WRX yet? Try Tescos, L&V, Elephant, NU etc as they're all fairly reasonable. I saved £450 just shopping around when i renewed my P1 insurance.
I've had a GX as a loan car, they're very nice but there's nothing like the grin you get from the turbo models.

as said by S.S.S. pop obver to www.imprezasport.net its for N/A scoobs to feel less intimidated by the turbo owners who seem to think its not a scoob unless its got a turbo , allthough there is not so much of that its just a good site for peeps with the same common interest

Surely a spoiler and some alloys wont make that much of a difference to the insurance (or is that yet another stupid Q). And thanks for the n/a impreza website.
I'm sure you won't be disappointed whatever you go for, Scoobys are great.
If you look in the insurance section there's plenty of threads about mods and insurance. I'm sure someones already posted this week in one of the threads that different wheels and spoiler added and extra 15-20% to the policy cost.
Oh, and never be afraid to ask questions on here - most people are very friendly and happy to help.

Really - is it not 140bhp v 220bhp but the WRX is 100kg more chunky which gives power to weight as 104bhp v 153bhp which would be a 47% increase in power over the Sport.
Genuine question - or have i got the figures wrong?

Its 160bhp rather than 140bhp. Dont get me wrong the WRX is the better car but when I drove the Turbo it wasnt as significantly faster as I had expected. I think threads like these build it up a bit too much. I have also followed a WRX and while on the straights it pulled away a bit on the short twisties where I rarely had my foot down to the floor it was the Turbos equal.

Just to add mine had the factory remap which was a standard procedure for Hawk sports - something to do with hesitation mid range, anyway it released a few more ponies at the expense of extra fuelling so the official figure of 160bhp is a little lower than what a lot of them are actually running now.
