Just who makes "Subaru" cambelts???

Default Just who makes "Subaru" cambelts???

it is mentioned that they are made by "Gates", but i've be informed that they are made by "Dayco".

so just who is it that makes them?


BTW i can get hold of the "Dayco" ones for about £50 including vat!
Retail price for them is £84.50

so are the Dayco ones any good?

be told there O/E on a lot of cars including VW (and they seem to have high standards these days!)

I'd of thought Gates too, they supply a hell of a lot of OE belts

Could be both...it's not uncommon for a car manufacturer to use more than one manuafcturer to supply genuine parts, or to wap for some reason.

Classics could use one make of belt...newage could be someone elses.

Just speculating though

most oem,s use one main supplier,

however they usually have more than one supplier in case of any issues.

given that the belt is a common and unspecific, ie it can be produced by a number of tier 1 suppliers, and contains no propriatry information or techniques

this is the norm.

for items that have properties or rights associated to a particular supplier, they will be the only supplier of that part

To the best of my knowledge, Subaru use Gates belts exclusively. I have never seen another make of belt come off any Impreza at the first cambelt change other than Gates.

We only use Gates belts.
