Just wonderd if anyone out there knows where I can have this done in the North West. Reason is just bought a Jap STi V7 and was told it needs remapping to run Optimax as its been set for 100Ron in Japan. Is this true and is the remap expensive

I think the going rate is about £650 for a remap.

[Cheers Chris. As I'm quite new to all this technical stuff (had car 10 days been with ScoobyNet 3 days) is that advice recommended. Do most owners of Jap cars have them remapped or do they just run optimax and away they go? I was led to believe that my Jap V7 STi is 300BHP but someone said that will only be achieved by remapping and that simply running it on UK fuel will only make it about 280. Any help is much appreciated

If you don't re map then you'll have to use an octane booster in with the Optimax.

I ran my MY00 import on optimax and booster and then had it EcuTek remapped to run on straight optimax by TSL motorsport in Nottingham. I have been to Prosport a couple of time for rolling roads day and they seem to be very capable impreza specialists. IIRC they are Subaru UK certified as well.

I run my MY03 JDM STi on optimax and octane booster, you do need the octane booster though,
The only downside to remapping is that you will need to inform your insurance co, they "may" add a few quid to your policy, and id still recommend the use of a knocklink.
As for bhp....
All new age JDM STi's (with the exception of the S202, which was 320ps), have 280ps out of the factory, they "may" push more power than this, and 300bhp is definately achievable, especially on the twin scroll turbo cars (MY03 onwards) due to a total redevelopement of the engine.
(mine is happy at a nice 311bhp and 331lbs of torque, and thats just with a panel filter, standard map )

That spoils all the fun
Anyway, i wanted to see what these cars put out as standard (well with STi panel filter) and as she only has 7k on the clock, ill give it a little longer as im not really wanting much more power just yet
