FROM VTS TO IMPREZA (MAYBE)
I HAVE NOW DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND BUY MY FIRST IMPREZA, I HAVE LOOKED AT ALL THE MODELS AND PRICES AND HAVE DECIDED TO GO FOR A UK TURBO MODEL, PRICED BETWEEN 11 AND 12 GRAND. SO THE CARS ON THE MARKET ARE LATE CLASSICS TO EARLY BUGEYES.
I HAVE A SAXO VTS IN BLACK ON AN 02 PLATE, SHOWROOM CONDITION AND WOULD LIKE TO TRADE IT IN.
THE PROBLEM IS I DONT WANT THE DREAM TO BECOME A NIGHTMARE.
HOW DO I GO ABOUT BUYING AN IMPREZA THATS SOUND AND NOT BEEN THRASHED INTO THE GROUND.
I LIVE IN THE LEEDS AREA AND HAVE FOUND TWO CARS THIS WEEKEND.
WELL LANE TURBO HAVE A BUGEYE 30,000 MILES IN BLACK ON A Y PLATE, PRICE 12495
ANOTHER GARAGE HAS A LATE CLASSIC ON A Y PLATE ONLY DONE 18,000 MILES FOR 11995
DO THESE DEALS SOUND ANY GOOD.
ALSO CAN YOU GIVE ME ANY LITTLE ADVICE I MIGHT NEED TO KNOW.

Then look at servicing
Classics will be 6 month/7.5k intervals, whichever comes first, new age will be 10k/1yr intervals.
Insurance is a must to check out, you may get a bit of a shock

Impreza's are normally very reliable, things to look for are blue/white smoke on overrun (not steam) this indicates oil/turbo wear.
This list would be very long, so the short of it is, it looks like your getting the car from a dealer?
Id get the car inspected by either a subaru dealer or subaru speciallist, they will point out any thing thats wrong.
You will need to check on the classics, that the cambelt service has been carried out (3yrs on an MY99/4 on an MY00 with a Y in the chassis number, 3yrs if it has an X, 4 years on new age cars) as this isnt cheap and one breaking will be very expensive
Check for full service history, that helps loads
Dealers should supply the car with a warranty (3 month or 1 year depending where you buy the car from).
