Smile Wagoneers, have your say here.

Greetings fellow Wagoneers.

I thought that I would start a thread for Wagon owners.

There seems to be different opinions on Wagons/owners so this thread is aimed at letting you put things straight.

When I bought my Wagon (95MY JDM Impreza WRX Auto) I did so for practical reasons.

I have a Great Dane (a real Scooby-Do) and a handful of sons, so a saloon was out of the question, I wanted an auto because I am an old git and couldn't be bothered changing gears any more. (been driving since 1967!!).

Let's start things rolling with a few questions.

1, Why did you choose a Wagon instead of a Saloon?

2, What have you done with your Wagon that you could not do in a saloon? (please be careful how you answer this!!)

3, Is your wagon a stealth machine or an 'in yer face' Scooby.

4, Do you wave at other Scoobies?

5, Do other Scoobies wave at you?

6, Would you buy me some new wheels for my wagon?

As the Squadron Leader for the 'East Sussex Scoobies 555 Wagon Squadron', here are my answers....

1) The wife would only let me have a wagon

2) Put the rear seats forward

3) Stealth, though I'll stick on a front splitter and STi8 scoop at some point

4) Flash and wave at any Subaru

5) Yes

6) No

1) I used to have a saloon which did everything including trackdays, sold it and bought a track car and a wagon which is now the runaround!

2) Fit myself, the fiancee, our daughter, her buggy, travelcot, babywalker, highchair and all the other kit that babies need - and our luggage then drive to France for a weeks holiday...quickly!

3) Looks totaly std from the outside, bar the exhaust. I'm not allowed to mod this one, the other car gets the goodies. But of course when components need to be replaced, an upgrade is natural

4) If I manage to spot them in time

5) Only if I wave it seems

6) no

4- Always
5- Usually but Bugeye and Blobeye owners less than Classic
6- No Become an MP I'm sure they must have an allowance to cover new Sccoby wheels

Nice motor, proper colour too.
Love the interior.

Come on wagoneers, lets have some more wagon photos and opinions.

Has anyone changed the rear spoilers?

Default Switched from the dark side.

Put it this way. I used to belong to that group on the dark side of scoobydom...... the saloon drivers. I had a Sti7 with PPP. I PXd it for a MY04 Wagon with PPP and was told that I'd be disapointed with it in comparison to the Sti.

How wrong they were. With prodrive springs and PPP fitted its more pleasurable to drive than the Sti and unless you drive like Petter Solberg its just as quick in day to day use. Also it doesn't get all the negative attention the Sti seemed to invoke in every "wanabee" scooby racer in the area. (give me stealth mode every time).

And finally how many cars will do 150 MPH with a fridge freezer in the back.

I'm converted, only wish they did a UK STi Wagon.

Cheers, Ian.

1, Why did you choose a Wagon instead of a Saloon?

It has a REAR WASH WIPE ! and was more practical at the time
of purchase since we had kids on the way

2, What have you done with your Wagon that you could not do in a saloon? (please be careful how you answer this!!)

Gone to a LAN party transporting myself, 3 passengers, 3 17" monitors, 4 tower PCs and luggage

3, Is your wagon a stealth machine or an 'in yer face' Scooby.

PPP'd and morette headlamps so probably not the most subtle wagon on the road.

4, Do you wave at other Scoobies?

Yes

5, Do other Scoobies wave at you?

Blank looks the majority of the time

6, Would you buy me some new wheels for my wagon?

The best I can offer is the loan of my skinny spare !

1, Why did you choose a Wagon instead of a Saloon?

Much cooler car - better image than saloon (too many chavs up here) - occasionally need the space but not a necessity, really like the wagon. Could have had MY03 STi for same price as current car but chose wagon instead

2, What have you done with your Wagon that you could not do in a saloon? (please be careful how you answer this!!)

Had a washing machine in the back, fridge/freezer, mountain bike etc etc. Get incredulous look from BMW drivers as a wagon with roof box screams past on B-roads

3, Is your wagon a stealth machine or an 'in yer face' Scooby.
It's a stealth machine, will eventually PPP it with spring kit but no bling bling alloys or extra bodykit for me

4, Do you wave at other Scoobies?
usually

5, Do other Scoobies wave at you?
very rarely

6, Would you buy me some new wheels for my wagon?
no, keep em standard and spend the cash on an ECU remap or brakes/suspension

Avalyn (formally MY00 wagon .. now MY05 wagon )

1, Why did you choose a Wagon instead of a Saloon?
Only way I could get it thru domestic cost control - sold it as being more practical after our son arrived.

2, What have you done with your Wagon that you could not do in a saloon? (please be careful how you answer this!!)
Got all the cr4p in it that you have to take with you when going away for a week with a 6-month old

3, Is your wagon a stealth machine or an 'in yer face' Scooby.
Standard looking - apart from 18" rims and the tell tail PPP exhaust sticking out the back

4, Do you wave at other Scoobies?
Yup

5, Do other Scoobies wave at you?
Some do - some don't.

6, Would you buy me some new wheels for my wagon?
What do you think ?

1 - I got my wagon because my mate got it me uber cheap, wasn't a choice, infact I didn't know it was a wagon until the day it was due to arrive.

2 - I am now awaiting my second gearbox as mine went about a month ago, got a replacement that was also knackered. So apart from the inconveniance I have now got to pay the mechanic again. While the car was in the garage first time I decided to get a VF30 turbo and a decat downpipe for it. The brief drive I had before taking it back to the garage was fun to say the least. Oh yeah I have a Dawes and SECS on it as well.

3 - Stealth, still has all original stuff on it and it surprises alot of cars.

4 - Sometimes if I am in a good mood(not very often).

5 - Not really, bunch of miserable gits around here.......like me.

6 - NO!! You buy me some first!

1) quite self-explanatory: the beast from the east (see scooby mag issue 1)

2) bootspace & roof-rack (perfect when sister moved house)

3) 'in yer face'

4) don't wave as they cant see me (tints)

5) see 4) + not wise to wave in bradford or it'll get 'nicked'

6) have a spare 18" bk299 if you're interested!

1. Never even considered a saloon, it had to be a wagon for the practicality aspect because I do loads of outdoorsy stuff. And people STILL think they're slower, very Q.

2. Carried all manner of things inc. sailboards and kayaks and stuff on the roof, carted a fridge and all the camping gear down to Le Mans then 6 people round Le Mans (note the goon in the boot!)

Lug the dog about all the time

3. Fairly stealthy but is is a red one! Want to get the sills coded but that's about as far as I'd go with the exterior, would rather spend the cash on PPP.

4/5. Only usually wave when waved at as I'm a bit shy.

6. No, sorry, only just got mine

7. WAGONS ROOL!

Default Thanks, keep em coming.

Thanks to all who have replied so far, keep the thread going.

It looks like I'll have to buy my own wheels.

I get the feeling that we are ignored on the road by other Scooby drivers, but who cares, we can't be seen when in stealth mode. (Projuca not included !!)
Let's know what type of car you have surprised with your Wagon, my best one was a Boxster on the twisties...and yours was......

Also, check out the video in this link, watch for the Wagon after the Cossie.

1, Why did you choose a Wagon instead of a Saloon?

Stealth, not (so) chavvy?, easier to persuade the wife

2, What have you done with your Wagon that you could not do in a saloon? (please be careful how you answer this!!)

Fitted a church pew in the back

3, Is your wagon a stealth machine or an 'in yer face' Scooby.

Stealth - first mod was downpipe, because did not want to change exhaust note

4, Do you wave at other Scoobies?

Mostly

5, Do other Scoobies wave at you?

Certainly

6, Would you buy me some new wheels for my wagon?

Nope

In addition, I'd never have a saloon - if Subaru stopped making wagons, I'd leave the brand and get one of them X-type, or Audi 'wagon's'

1, Why did you choose a Wagon instead of a Saloon?

I went to look at a 555, which turned out to be a replica and saw this sat on the corner of the forecourt being ignored due to it being a wagon, and the fact it is a V1 STi helped!

2, What have you done with your Wagon that you could not do in a saloon? (please be careful how you answer this!!)

DIY stuff

3, Is your wagon a stealth machine or an 'in yer face' Scooby.

It's got 17 inch gold alloys and tinted rear windows and HKS BOV so not too stealth

4, Do you wave at other Scoobies?

Yes

5, Do other Scoobies wave at you?

1, Why did you choose a Wagon instead of a Saloon?
Firstly I've always prefered the looks of a Wagon over the Sedan.
Also when I first bought it (6 month old ex-demonstrator) it was as a family car and practicality same into it.

2, What have you done with your Wagon that you could not do in a saloon? (please be careful how you answer this!!)
Prams/Bikes/Furniture in boot and on roof rails.
Change the rear suspension without taking the seats out.
Blew off a Boxster when I had a door on the roof

3, Is your wagon a stealth machine or an 'in yer face' Scooby.
It did only have 17" Superlegs and a smallish round tailpipe until I fitted the FMIC and large Japanese exhaust, now little boys point at me in the street - will be painting the FMIC black next time the bumper is off, not much I can do about the 5" tailpipe at a rakish angle

4, Do you wave at other Scoobies?
Only if they are looking i.e. not deliberately staring straight ahead.

5, Do other Scoobies wave at you?
Some do - some don't.

6, Would you buy me some new wheels for my wagon?
I'll do better than that - I'll give you some - but I doubt you'll want them (MY98/99 16").
