I am doing a bit of a trek from Basingstoke to Blackpool and then to Newcastle and then back. I want to fill up with Optimax, do Shell have a website of their garages in the UK?

It's ok, the further North you go, the less dense the air so you can run lower octane.....until you get to Scotland and then it gets colder so denser so back to Optimax......alledgedly

We had a moan at Shell and they sent us a roadmap with all the petrol stations marked

If you get your info from the Shell site, Be Warned.... It's not that accurate !!!
I have had 3 sites that said they were Shell only to find they had changed hands but the website data had not been updated. I sent an e-mail to Shell and after about a month I got a reply that said thanks they would update - But they still haven't !
I would advise getting a couple of alternatives if you really want to stick to Optimax (Or take a couple of cans with you !!)
