aftermarket aircon.
Have any of you had aircon fitted to your cars after you bought them?
I wondered if it was worth buying a car without aircon and then getting it fitted.
What are the costs involved?
Thanks.
BTW, I know Sonic did this himself, but I am not that experimental.

Ring a dealer and ask, then call an aircon specilist from the yellow pages. Parents had aircon retro-fitted to a 5 series few years back, Dealer wanted 2k think it cost about £800 at a specialist.

I got my MY99 new from Westaways at Spratton. They got the cars from Subaru/IM without A/C and had an aftermarket company fit the A/C to the cars. They used a genuine Subaru A/C kit. I watched the guy fitting one in the showroom whilst i was waiting to pick my car up from service.
If it is a scoob you are thinking of it might be worth calling Westaways to get the cost for the kit and asking who they use to fit them.

I did think of yellow pages, but thought there may have been some scooby specialists.
Paul, I will ask at Spratton (was there on Saturday asking lots of questions, but I didn't think of aircon).

Nicci,
Grade-A subaru sell air conditioning kits for MY97-MY00 Imprezas, cost £390 plus VAT. It might work out cheaper getting one of these and having somebody fit it for you.
http://www.gradea-subaru.co.uk/ Click on Offers, scroll to bottom. I've bought parts from them before and they're very good.

I bought a new aircon kit for my 98 Impreza Turbo from Midland Impreza (now gone) for £450, took me a day to fit, £75 to get gassed and oiled, so cost me £525 plus my time. At the time (one year ago) Subaru dealers would do it for £1000 all in which takes them 4 hours to fit.
For my year car and others they fit a kit supplied by a company called Coolair (don't try and ring them, they could not be any less helpful if they tried!) in the North of England somewhere. As has been said you can get second hand kits for £150 to £300.
