Turbo or WRX!
Hi
I am searching for a Subaru Impreza 4WD Turbo, and have around £7k to spend. Ideally I want something from 1997 as I heard that there were quite a few mods done for this years car rather than a 96 one (is this right??)
Problem is, I cant seem to find many. I can see loads of WRX's for sale, which although appealing, seem to be extremly expensive to insure (Im 26, with two dings to my record and no 'No Claims' bonus).....
Is there such a big difference between a WRX and a 4WD turbo Impreza, cos the insurance quotes I get for the 4WD Turbo, are like half that of the WRX Subs???
Any advice or help would be great - Im new to this forum!! Also any tips on finding a 97 Subaru Turbo would be great???
Cheers
Nick

Think it might be an import/UK model thing - you should be able to find a 97/98 UK turbo for £7k, but you'll need a fair bit more that that if you've no NCB - ouch!
As far as the performance go's I think the WRX imports are quicker.

look for a '98 car not 97, 98's had different dash and a few added extras IIRC, 7k should see a clean motor no worries, turbo 2000 (uk model) is 215bhp and the WRX is 260 or 280 IIRC

Hi All
Thanks for the replies. Thats a great help....
Mo,s scoobymonster - the car looks superb mate, and fits my price bracket exactly. Only problem would be insurance as I just cant get it for a WRX!! Must be my tarnished history!! I guess the same would apply for the WRX type ra Xiw2155 - gutted as I would love either!!
I will keep an eye out for the 98 model for my budget. Sounds like this could be the best option.
Cheers for the advice!!

Bottom book, i.e. trade, is a little over 6K for a UK 98S, officially. However you're unlikely to see a 97 or 98 for under 7K on the forecourts, unless the mileage is high (and even then the dealers will try and stiff you, particularly if you're in the south east. Look at the ads in autocar - ridiculous).

I think you might need to increase your budget a bit to account for the high insurance costs: I'm 27 and paid £1800 for a UK turbo. I had no no-claims as well (been a named driver for years) WRX is significantly more as it's more powerful and an import!

Oh right - cheers for the advice.
The plan is to get insured as second driver as my misses has an excellent driving record (crazy I know)!!
Still, the WRX is out of my league insurance wise, hence the Turbo 4WD!!
Looks like a private bought one is the way to go, as you are right about the trade prices - there crazy!!
