Default Confused!!

I'm new to Scoobies, and i'm well confused with all the different models and varaitions.

I've bought a UK Sti that was first registered in October last year.

Is this an MY03?

What are the Sti 7's, 8's?????

Help please!!

The terms STi 6/7/8/9 etc all refer to JDM (Japenese Domestic Market) versions.

i.e. STi 6 is the last classic shape. MY99-00
STi 7 is the first JDM bugeye STi MY01
and so on......

For UK cars, the best way to describe them is by year ie MY02/MY03 etc etc.

Yours will be a MY03 STi Type UK

If you do a search on here you'll find loads of discussion about this!!!!

As it's registered in October last year it'll be the current shape - ie the "blobeye". More accurately it's an Impreza III WRX STi Type UK. I'd guess it's probably a 2004 Model Year - but wouldn't worry about it as I don't know of any differences between the 03 and 04.

With regards STi7, 8 or 9 - I don't think thses designations technically exist and they're just handles placed on them by enthusiasts for convenience. It's definitely not a 7 but depending onwho you ask it'll be an 8 or a 9 - it doesn't matter.

Ian

PS - Welcome!!!

Can of worms here...... the official JDM figures are widely recognised as being conservative.

The first STi Versions 1&2 were 240bhp IIRC
Version 3 upped power to 276 bhp were it remained until Version 6 at the end of the run of classics.

Some cars were reputed to be over 300bhp, but were quoted at 276bhp to comply with strict Japanese emissions regulations.

New age STi's - JDM 310bhp/UK 265bhp or 305bhp with PPP

If the JDM figures are conservative, could it be that the UK ones are also?

The reason for asking is that i feel that my Sti punches harder than 265 bhp!

Have any standard Sti UK Spec cars been rolling roaded?

What difference does the PPP package make to the fuel consumption?

I didn't think it could get any worse than my golf, but i seem to have managed to do about 150 miles on 3/4 of a tank - and that wasn't constantly nailing it everywhere!!

I'm sorry for all the questions - i really appreciate you taking the time to answer me!

If it has a round boot lock that feels like either it will wrench out or the key will snap every time you use it then it's an MY03. MY04 IIRC have the new square boot lock, which looks ugly but I'm told is much better to use.

Well, they swapped the bootlid on my Sti with their 04 reg WRX demonstrator and as far as i know there was no problems swapping the barrels over, so maybe it's an 04?

I know that the easy option would be to go and look but it's in the garage today having all of the decals put back onto the boot!! - It's been fun surprising a few people over the weekend though when they didn't realise it was an Sti from the back!!

Unlikely. The JDM figures are achieved on 100RON fuel, and even after a re-map the cars usually make more than 276bhp.

LOL, you are the first person I have heard say that!
My STi was PPP'd when I got it so I have no experience of non-PPP, but going by other peoples views, the non-STi is fairly flat and would be lucky to make 265 bhp on the rollers.

The sales pitch will have you believing that it actually improves, however, I doubt this is true.

In effect, due to the increased torque and driveability, I would guess that you would be more encouraged to put the foot down, so fuel consumption is unlikely to be improved.
