Lightbulb What would you do if.....

Hiya all,
As above really – what would you do in this situ…?
I’m in a bit of a dilemma; I’m not sure what do –
The options are as follows. I have MY02 STI Type UK (In standard form)
Now do I keep it in standard form & save all my money?
Or
Keep it & go for the 04 PPP
Or
Keep it & go for 333 TSL (lose my remaining warranty) even tho the scooby is not used daily?
Or
Sell it & buy an EVO 8?

Not sure about buying the EVO8, my mate has an EVO 7 which he let me drive for a bit.
Boy does it shift, but I doubt I could use it every single day. He tells me that the suspension is standard, but I guess you need to visit one of those back blokes every couple of months.

Good car though

Personally I wouldn't go for the 333 - Just think that its ever so slightly overstreached and ultimately will go bang

I thing I'd be inclined to hang around and see what Subaru release next in the STI range. Maybe its only a matter of time before the centre diff etc are there on the UK models.

I have to agree with urban. I took an '8' out for a 30 minute test drive and it gave me back ache, something the scooby has never done.

If i were u i'd go and have a lot of fun test driving!

To balance opinion. I have an 8 and use it as my daily transport, and main family car. It gives me no backache but my prev Subarus were hell on my back as the seats had no lower back support and made me want to hunch over the wheel.

That's weird because the other thing i found was that the drivers seat wasn't height adjustable and it felt a bit like driving a Transit, as i'm used to a very low driving position.

Each to their own i guess and a test drive is really going to be the only way of finding out what's right for you.

TSL are good ive heard and im making a visit in the not too distant future.
As for upgrades/power they can go even further than 333 and was told by them on the phone they have got a works subaru that they have mapped up to 370hp but they run it at a conservative 350hp. All this from a standard STi with uprated fuel pump, exhaust and re-map...
They have great experience with MOTEC as a one of the guys down there used to work for them in some way an i cant wait to get some good power out of my import STi v7...

No one has made any comments re the 04 PPP is it worth it?
The car does not get used daily, mainley weekend use, so EVO would not be a problem with service cost etc.....
I dont want a EVO v Scooby thread, but would like some comments...re why I should keep the scoob , v buy a new Evo MR.

Cheers

I found that a Bug + PPP was no quicker than a Blob Sti, however a Blob + 04 PPP - thats a whole new ball game!

MONEY simple as that..... you've already lost the big thump that MY02's took keep it another 2-3 years and it won't lose a lot im comparison to what its lost (huh?).

spend some money on wisely modding it and enjoy it.

Im looking to get 350ish out of mine which I thinks more than enough to enjoy it for a long time yet.

Can you explain more on "I found that a Bug + PPP was no quicker than a Blob Sti, however a Blob + 04 PPP - thats a whole new ball game!
I thought they had the same engine etc...?early PPP maybe but not the latest PPP on a bug?

fair comment - it was almost certainly 03 or earlier PPP on the Bug compared with 03 std STi - The std Sti definitely pulled stronger

Have a word with Mike at Prodrive (Mike Wood on forum) re how 04 s/w would work on Bug - for sure it will be a bit down, perhaps 10-20 bhp?

I had a PPP fitted to my MY02 STI UK two weeks ago.
The difference is very large indeed, but it's not just about power.
The PPP is a masterpiece of engineering in almost every respect

Cold starts (first couple of minutes) are smooth
Spool up is now very fast
Real torque available from low 2000s rpm as opposed to high 2000s
Through the gears the boost is immediately there after the gear change
Power is no longer delivered in large waves at all, but is a constant, smooth shove.
Bog downs are pretty much gone, 2000rpm is sufficient to get a decent start
I couldn't live with the MY02STI any longer, it was an aggressive and intimidating car, it was very fast, but only on it's own terms.

It is now a fast car on any terms, even when you drive it gently (if that makes sense)

i have found Mike pretty good at replying - sometimes takes a week or two as he is busy whirling around in tyre smoke most of the time - send him a private mail and wait...........

good assessment! - I think the 04 PPP s/w is a bit of a breakthrough

ShyTot,
I know what you mean, I can no longer live with the standard sti aswell, hence why i was thinking about selling it.
I was/still am unsure about the PPP route as I have heard that its only 290 bhp(02 & 03 PPP only) & then I was thinking about the TSL 333.
I would like to hear all your views. re the 04 PPP on a bug (only)

cheers

certainly earlier PPP if not all on Bug was c 290 and feels lot slower than Blob PPP - if proved otherwise I might still be tempted into Bug, but I want reliable warranted 300 bhp and high torque - 333 and T25 - mmm, we can but dream!!

go for the tsl 333, i have got a 01 sti v7. before the upgrade it could be a real pig, big power in a big hit nasty. it now delivers from around 2000, and makes power all the way to the redline. the delivery is smooth and linear, with no nasty surprises, those guys know their stuff, and treat you how you should be treated, very very professional. i have a group a g/f down pipe, de-cat,and a group n b/box (what a sound, but sensible)g/filter, uprated pump and ekutek re-map,the difference is un-real, and the sti b/end is good for 500bhp easily.
