Smile ZEROSHIFT - FORGET TURBOLAG?

Has anyone heard of this new UK invention???!!!

Seems too good to be true: www.zeroshift.com

Quicker than DSG, no Auto slur, constant torque maintained through shift - SO NO FALLING OFF BOOST AND NO VIOLENT G CHANGES FOR YOUR PASSENGERS.............

No, I am not associated with co. (wish I was!) c. £5000 / gearbox exchange subject to innitial development cost of £50k on first unit - I suggested he contact I.M. (co. considers Prodrive as a competitor..) - already developing an Evo version for a private customer.

Co. intends to have Autocar drag test their modified Cerbera against a standard car - expects to see less than 7 secs to 100 mph!!! - September

too true!! - I was quick to point out to their M.D. by phone that the Impreza is the perfect candidate - short gearing coupled to high torque and 4wd transmission mass - give rise to violent changes. + I suggested that if their s/w allows torque to be maintained then the turbolag can be completely forgotten when gear changing - he agreed...

There is a slot on their website that allows customers to put forward their suggestion for next gearbox to be developed - get form filling chaps!

saw an article on this in Autocar, two britsh guys invented it, and apparently its a simple idea that no one has ever thought of... I think their on the way to being very rich...! F1 teams are well interested too...

Another British invention, lets hope we make the best of it instead of doing the usual and inventing it only for the yanks to make mony out of!

Sounds suspiciously like the gearbox in the TVR Typhoon.

Apparently it eliminates (isolates?) most of the inertia from the gearset making it possible to always get the gear (whether it's the right one or not.... 5th to 1st anyone?)

Sort of takes the fun out of driving though doesn't it? Quarter miles/0-60 will be down to power with pretty much nothing to do with the driver.

Saying that it sounds awesome, would love to drive a car with one but the £5K/£7.5K price is a bit steep.

the price isnt too steep if you consider a brand new sti 6spd box is around 3k.

Vulnax.. I will ignore that comment!

Thanks for your enquiry.

Your comments and 'vote' for the Subaru gearbox are noted.

The ZeroShift 'kit' for Subarus will be based on the later 6-speed gearbox
with conversion parts to update earlier 5-speed cars.

We will advise a release date in due course.

------------

This has been talked about over on Pistonheads a while ago. There's some more info here.

There's also some other threads on there about it if you do a search for zeroshift.

Sounds interesting

Just had target launch date for Scoob 6 spd: Q3 / Q4 05 - I relayed that target price of £7.5k could be a bit sticky........
