The only thing I can say is that if it were a good idea to use these kind of oil additives wouldn't the manufacturers be putting them in.

I don't know of a technical reason why you shouldn't use them.

I'd just stick with a good quality oil and change it regularly

Shouldn't this be in Drivetrain or General Technical? No one bothering with the specific forums any more?

Anyway, I'm sure Bob Rawle would be happy to elaborate on his post - http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...ighlight=slick

Problem???

Considering a lot of the "experts" don't bother in this forum, it just makes more sense to put it in one of the techie ones.

Why don't you use search if you want a quick answer?

The general concensus is that slick 50 can't cope with the internal temps of the Subaru engine. You're better off sticking with a high quality oil such as Castrol RS10/60 and changing it every 3k or so.

Fair enough, but I'd always say no to anything until you get an answer.

You know how touchy these cars (and their drivers ) can be

save the money on the slick 50 and spend it on a new filter and more oil. a decent quality oil changed frequently (i.e 3000 miles) is the best you can do for your engine. adding snake oil isn't going to help. if it were that good why do castrol not put it in as standard?

I think Slick50 does work. It certainly made a difference when I put it into a motorcycle I had a few years ago. There was a distinct loss of friction in the "CLUTCH".
Slick50 and a wet multiplate type clutch just don't work well together.

Scunnered , it's scooby engines that we're on about here, it's been well documented by some very knowledgeable people that this stuff is no good for Subarus, reason being that it solidifies with excessive heat. If you fancy trying it yourself in a scoob, and reporting back on the benefits, great, otherwise your just misleading people unnecassarily.
