£85 on petrol
Just done a drive upto Perth (scotland) from Mansfield a round trip that has clocked up 711 miles at a cost of £85. I'm on Optimax 82p a litre, have I done well ??? I think it works out at around 33/35 to the gallon. I was steady going up and never went above 80 and steadier back down at 70. I think I have done well or the motor has done well. Its a standard MY99.

Just before Christmas I went from sunny Essex up to Ayr, then back down through the Lakes and back home again. A total round trip in four days (although one day I didn't actually use the car) of about 1k miles.
I think I 'managed' to do about 140.00 in petrol in total . It was worth it though

Is this the diesel forum I've stumbled upon where people discuss how many miles they've managed to scrape from their tank of petrol?!! Surely this isn't why we buy Scoobs - to steadily drive at 70 to get the best mpg - missing the point I'd have thought!
Though wish I could get more from my tank...!

Well just to join in
Guildford to Alton towers filled onway up and reset mile counter.
Got back home and done 275 miles (not the total trip) and nearly on the red. filled up about 12 miles later.
Opps! Doesn't sound good to me, well not for motorway driving anyway, lucky to get 220 to the tank for normal driving.

How cud ya go all the way to Scotland and back and not do more than 80. Were 4th and 5th gears not working?

I had a heart attack when I got my credit card statement, I just popped up to Carlisle to "Cruise west cumbria", and I had blown over £200 on fuel in 2 days, mindyou it was over 1000 miles the "scenic" route.
plus I used at least 6 bottles of millers at £3 each, mindyou the grin that my TypeR gave me was priceless

Smiles to the gallon
I always look at it as Smiles to the gallon :-)
If I want economy, I take the mrs`s T5, that does a good 25 to the gallon if you drive it steady.
