Default Dawes device thing

Is this the manual boost control thing?
If so, is it a safe thing to have to aid in raising boost or is there a better way?
I dont yet have a boost gauge and am getting a knock link, so can it be fitted without these or should i get the dvice after the dials/sensor?
I DONT WANT THE ENGINE TO EXPLODE AGAIN!!
Worth getting or not?

If your car is an import STi then I'd say avoid a Dawes device as a means of raising boost.

based on what I've read on here I'd advise against it.

maybe consider a ScoobyECU if they do them for your MY.

I use a Dawes on my STi to reduce the boost to below fuel cut which happens at approximately 16 PSI. I also have a Knocklink which is essential for the safety of your engine and a boost gauge to set the Dawes. I would not do the boost increase without the other mods. My boost went up when I fitted a good exhaust system. I find that I only get the occasional green on the Knocklink with Optimax and without octane booster. The Dawes is a very good and accurate boost controller but you should not increase your boost unless you know exactly what the effect is on your engine so you can keep it safe. You need the Knocklink and the boost gauge first and an AFR indicator is also worth having to make sure the ECU is supplying enough fuel to the engine on WOT.(wide open throttle) the STi ECU does but the 93 WRX one might not, I have no experience in that respect.

The ScoobyECU is very good and you may do better to get one of those chips fitted in your ECU. But you still need the boost gauge and the Knocklink.
