Angry Got to get geommetry & alignment sorted myself after ProDrive spring kit fitted....

Grrrrrrrrr.....

Has everyone else had the same?

I'm being recommended to drive over 40 miles away to get it sorted!

They don't have the equipment. I'm not happy

And how much will it cost?

Anyone know any decent places to get it done in or around Berkshire

Wink

I'm in a similar situation, most dealers won't have the gear for doing this... better to take it to somewhere you know has the gear and will do the job properly

PowerStation Cheltenham is where I had my done. Talked to me about how I liked it to handle, set it up - and that's exactly how it handles !

Excellent work - well worth the distance travelled to get it set up properly.

Out of interest, how much did they charge to do the job? I'm having the prodrive springs fitted to my STi7 by my local dealer next week and suspect that I may need to get the geo done properly afterwards (once they've bedded in etc).

Thanks,
Iain

I have seen a similar thread to this before.

I have an STI04 with PPP, 18" wheels (and a few other bits not relevant to this thread). I got the prodrive springs put on from new by the dealer and I have to say that it feels fine to me- that's not to say it is fine though.

Should I have it checked out? Would there be any noticeable differenece if it was not set up correctly?

From what I've heard, the cambers may be set up incorrectly for the new (lower) setup, and so you could be wearing out your tyres quicker than they should. Also, when correctly configured, it should make the car more predicatable etc (you can make the car more prone to understeer / oversteer by adjusting the geommetry).

If not Powerstation, where were you recommended to take it?

Had springs put on by a dealer & was never convinced it was right (Better -but not right). A visit to a local garage revealed that every setting was wrong but they only had the ability to get it close to what it should be (0.1 instead of 0.01). A trip to TSL sorted it once & for all. Now very happy but less so that it cost me 3 times (Moral: go to specialist first!). Dealers response 'You should have brought it back' (As if!).

Tuning Japanese in Aldershot did mine. Don't know what the Grand Masters here think of them but I am well happy with the results.

Cost £120 (2 hours work). If someone offers to do it for £25 - walk away, even if they've been recommended by a Scooby dealership... (that'll be my mistake then )

Clicky

Aldershot is within 40 miles of the busy bit of Berkshire...

Cheers, Jim

No, alignment only at Powerstation is £60 + VAT

You may be adding in the bumpsteer mod, which doesn't apply to the STI7.

Power Engineering in Uxbridge can do it. Around £110.

If I remember correctly it was about £90. I had my Prodrive springs fitted by a Subaru dealer, but they used 'old' Prodrive settings which gave me understeer and tramlining. (Sorry, I can't remember the toe-in and castor angles) After the visit to Cheltenham I had neutral handling (which is how I like it) and no tramlining.

Well worth it

Forgot to say - while you are there, you can have a look at the Spec C and T25 - plus lots of other goodies !!!

Excellent, that's what I wanted to hear. Will book it in as soon as I've got the spings done (I hope they'll do the job on a Saturday).

To be honest if you fit new suspension components to any car (dampers, springs etc) then you really need to get it set up properly again after, from a Mini to a Mitzi.
You may not notice it by simply looking but even a simple 20mm drop can alter the gemoetry - tracking and camber angles of a car and unless these are spot on the car won't handle as well as it could.

There are quite a few centres out there with the equipment and skill to do the job, not just Subaru garages, have a ring around any decent car/modification garages where they set the cars up themselves.
The average price to have a car setup round me (Manchester'ish) is about £75 and it takes about an hour usually.

If you want to be certain that the job is done as well as possible-go to PowerStation.

Russell,

How long after the spring fitting did they do the geometery setup?

Thanks,

Chris.

Took car for a run around and then set geometry.

Absolutely no problem with that.

Power Station it is then, they're only about 70 miles away and there appears to be an A road that goes the whole way from the M4

I guess I can book it in and they'll do a while you wait job?

I'd also like to get a power run done, no mods, just to see really, but I don't know if it's worth doing until the engine has loosened up a bit? It's only just had it's 1000 mile service.

Yes, had mine done while I waited, doesn't take long .

Yes, nice straight dual carriageway to Chelt, watch out for the Rozzers !

Had my Spec C on the rollers shortly after its first oil change, however it was necessary due to mapping.

Worth doing just for fun I guess, but perhaps wait til a few thousand on the clock ?

Sorry to be ignorant guys but I have also had my springs just fitted to my 03 STi, the told me to come back in 2-3 weeks once the springs have settled down and they will do the geom set-up etc. What special equipment should they have to carry out the alignment, geom, tracking etc? so I can ask them as there is no point taking it back to them if they don't have it.

I was going to get my springs fitted by my local dealer (in leicester) to my sti8. I would then probably go to TSL to get the geometry done.

Now i am not so sure. I dont know whether to buy the springs and then get TSL to fit them and carry out the work.

The question is will this effect my warranty?

I thought i had read somewhere that as long as a 3rd party garage was recognised this wouldnt invalidate the cars warranty with IM?

Is that true?

Cheers,

Andy
