Default Cracked alloy - MY02

Hi All

Has anyone else had cracked spokes on their WRX (>MY01)? I've had mine for 4 weeks now and I noticed this morning that there are cracks running straight through two adjacent spokes. Been there a while since it was the brake dust seeping out that caught my attention. Definately straight through, you can see them from the back of the wheel.
(These wheels are impossible to clean, hence the cracks were camouflaged). No evidence of a heavy hit on the rims, no other cracks.

Scary considering what the car's been up to over the last few weeks... Def slowed down now...

Anyway, is this an issue with the MY01 on or do I count it as bad luck? (i.e the car is still under warranty..)

Thanks,
Jim

With no evidence of kerbing you must have a very good warranty claim.

Heard of 2 other alloys crack on new age scoobs, doesnt inspire me with much confidence. Both guys had said nothing had caused it, so there may be an issue wif em

Exclamation

I had an MY01 WRX, when I put 18"s on it I decided to clean the originals before putting away for track days. Upon cleanig I found a crack in the back of the rim, from the edge to the centre. Never been kerbed etc, so off to the dealer, they replaced the wheel without question!

mate, get that wheel changes as soon as you can, whatever it may cost you personally.....

a friend of mine had a near-death experience (and wrote off his Lotus Esprit completely), at about 60mph on the slip-road coming off the motorway. He had noticed a hairline crack in his rear left alloy only two days before...... the entire rim eventually sheered off the spokes .....

don't want to put the wind up you but it's not worth the risk driving around with a cracked spoke

Fair comment. Got it sorted today.

BTW - £168 for the wheel was a lot less than I was expecting. Subaru and I can duscuss who ends up paying at a later date.

Thanks for the advice.

here's one I did earlier at bassingbourne airfield trackday. what you can't see is that it split right through the rim - although, entirely my fault, made a rather exciting exit from the track!
