One of the first things I did to my Scooby was to fit some Hooks into the boot, and stretched a Cargo Net between them....Perfect!

The hooks were from Do it All, with four little flaps cut into the 'carpet' masquerading as a felt underlay, screwed into the little white plastic inserts in the boot floor.

The net was from Halfords.

No more weightless shopping.

How about pinching the baskets??? At least they'd stay standing. I know that Sainsburys do those blue plastic shopping baskets that you can keep.

This problem also drives me mad - I normally put the shopping behind the driver and passenger seats, so if anyone does have a good idea I'd be interested (save me having a ready made meal by the time I get home!).

Mickey,
You mean you actually go to the shops!!
I am still using that one for an excuse to go for a spin, If anyone asks where the shopping is, just reply “damn Ive forgot” then you can go out again!!
We have got no food in our cupboards, just a big grin on my face.

Simple solution - fit a trunk monkey! That way you can get him to hold the shopping in place as you go around the corners. Easy! I'm sure someone here will be able to give you more info on the benefits and costs of a trunk monkey - I know a few people here do have them fitted.

Try the large plastic tubs that petrol stations sell. Works a treat!

Or... remove the floor panel and carpet, and plonk the shopping in the middle of the spare wheel. Also gives a handy weight reduction, probably worth about a yard down the straight past the car-park exit ;-)

Question

As usual I have left Morrisons, with all of my shopping neatly packed in bags in the boot. By the time I get home, the contents have been liberally distributed around the boot space etc...

Does anyone have any novel approaches to solve this problem? (assuming it happens to everyone else!!) Or can you buy aftermarket bits to help?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Mickey,

Try slowing down at the corners. Works everytime, but not so much fun

I just tie the handles of the carrier bags together in a knot. Simple, but it works. Being a greedy git, and filling the entire boot with shopping bags also helps

Question

Beef,

Does that work with the big bore trunk monkey, or does it have to be the standard unit?

I use a non slip mat from Halfords (about£8) cut to shape and have a largish cardboard box in the centre of that so I can pack bags inside and around it. Works fine unless you are heavy on the brakes

Shop over the net, but then you will need another excuse to go out in the car - I expect we all have hundreds of those !!

Thanks for all the advice - I think I will opt for the Mat and boxes until my Cargo net arrives. I assume these can be purchased from UK dealers?

Thanks,

some other suggestions:

- eat out a lot, and steal toilet paper from work.
- get married and buy her a fiesta
- order the shopping over the internet and have it delivered
- get a 16 year old phillipino girl in, to do everything
- starve
- eat "on the hoof" - in TESCO's (don't forget to wipe your mouth before walking out past the checkout)
- get a old tailors' dummy, remove the head and fill it with the shopping thru the neck hole, and strap it into the passenger seat (improves the handling as it balances out the weight of the car left to right
- get a towing hook fitted and 'string' the trolleys together behind you, and wind down the windows and sing "Three wheels on my wagon" as you drive down the High Street
- fit a ski box on the roof - that way you totally eliminate the shopping being scattered width ways. However this results in a different problem as the shopping will be distributed length ways.
- fit two of theose orange pickers baskets you see hung on the sides of Spanish donkeys
- balance all the shopping on the end of one finger like the 'Cat in the Hat' in the Dr Seuss books
- errrmm...
- oh yeah ! drive slower.
- naaaahh !

If marriage is involved - just remember, that sex is the price women pay for marriage.
Marriage is the price men pay for sex.

Unless your Trunk Monkey is very well trained and nimble, he will play more havoc with your shopping than your cornering as he does what he's supposed to do, which is to run from side to side to give better weight distribution in corners. Also, if your shopping contains bananas or beer, he will have it.

Seriously, though, shop on the net. We do and I haven't been in a supermarket for two years. That is a major enhancement to my quality of life. I can always find an excuse for a drive ("I'm going for a drive now" is the best... )

Question

I think that is a dreadful slur on trunk monkeys. OK, there may be one or two rogues out there, but on the whole they do a good job. You MUST get a recent one, though, MY00 preferred with the latest updates.
