I am buying a P1. NEED ADVICE !!!
Lads (& lassies),
I am looking to buy a P1 in the next few weeks.
I had a terzo and sold it so not surprisingly, I need to get a scoob again and want a P1 DESPERATELY!!!
Here is my situation,
I am 25 with full NCB so Insurance is affordable (considering the car!)
I get an allowance for my car so need to buy from a dealer (for finance!)
Have a PX with a trade value of £6,500
What should i be looking for in the car!
What extras should I be swayed by!
Is there any tell tale signs of a bad P1?
Apart from the FSsh, what else should I be aware of as i Search the South East.
Can anyone recommend a dealer that they have used etc?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Paddy

It should be your new home and we are all very helpful.
Briefly, you should be looking for a car with warranty and possibly extended for a further 2 years, 18" alloys (Prodrives) make the car handle much better, bigger brake upgrade (standard ones are crap), fSsh and low miles.

Look for obvious accident damage, under the bonnet the wings shouldn't be sprayed with the same blue as the external panels, if it is thats a sign it's been replaced/resprayed. Make sure there is no black smoke on start up from the exhaust. Look out for an excessively juddery clutch, mine does it, but only for a few minutes when cold. Make sure the gears don't have a problem engaging also, all common sense things really!

Might cost you more buying from a main dealer but you will get peace of mind from a Subaru warranty - my old P1 popped #3 piston and required £7K worth of rebuild! I know of a number of P1's that have suffered the same
fate
Condition of the front spoiler is always a good starting point as many have been caught on kerbs, etc. A spoiler in good condition should indicate a car well looked after. Some of the early cars also had paint quality problems on front and rear spoilers - chipping, pealing, etc.
happy hunting

Thanyou all so much for all of your help and advise. One thing is for sure, I doubt I will have many unanswered Scooby Q's when I can log onto a website like this!
Cheers Lads
