Default Light Modding Advice Needed.....

Thinking of lightly modding my MY00 Classic.

Perhaps exhaust and induction kit.

Still want car to pass emissions and MOT.

Any advice on products / way to go appreciated.

Cheers.

SS exhaust and a Ecuteck remap worked wonders on my MY01 WRX, although I did go for full de-cat
Just waiting for my STi panel filter and job done, for now

First up don't bother with the induction kit. The MAF sensor is somewhat prone to failure on the MY00 and an induction kit makes it even more likely. Induction kits are also known to cause the MAF to misread. Get a good panel filter instead, e.g. STI or Green Cotton. The other main disadvantage with induction kits is you end up sucking in warm air from the engine bay, unless you are able to isolate it and cold air feed it. The standard Subaru induction system is much better at getting cold air into the engine.

The exhaust is a worthwhile mod just for the sound alone I've got a H&S centre section and back box on mine. This removes the centre cat but leaves the big cat in the downpipe so you should still pass an MoT. Choice of exhaust is down to the individual really, unless you are going for big power. Theres a myriad of choices out there from quiet to very loud

However I would guess the most this lot will ever give you in terms of performance is between 5 and 15 BHP. The big power gains come with a full de-cat and ultimately an ECU remap, but then you won't get through the MoT without refitting you centre cat (or finding a 'friendly' MoT tester).

Thumbs up

Quite a choice of exhausts out there, depends how loud you want it to go and if you want to be able to hear yourself talk on a motorway run
Quite a few for sale in the Scoobyshop at the top of the page .The Scoobysport back box is one of the quieter one's I think http://www.scoobysport.co.uk/exhaustsstd.htm

1st Stage

De-cat centre and backbox & STi or green panel filter

2nd stage

Down pipe de-cat

3rd stage

ECU re-map (Ecutek custom re-map preferably NOT an off the shelf map)

4th Stage

3 port boost solenoid
Bigger hybrid turbo and intercooler (FMIC would be nice)
Upgraded injectors
bigger fuel pump
all this would equate to a bigger clutch and poss a new gearbox

Thanks for all your replies, me thinks panel filter and exhaust mods first on list.

don't want to go mad on mods so your advice appreciated.

besides a good driver in a standard turbo can make up for a few HP given the right road.

Cheers.
