...break it to me gently folks. I got done doing 87mph on the A14 near Huntingdon. Could have been a lot worse cause i was doing alot more when i saw the camera van on the bridge...but the breaks were fantastic on the Scoob.
It will teach me to slow down for a while.

Might be less than 6 months though, I had a mate jsut banned for three + 6 point + huge fine.
Insurance will be nasty too with a ban.
3 points for the 87 though, as long as they got you.

I'd agree that it will be 3 points for that speed.
Over 100 and you will get a ban of some sort It depends on the judge how long it is though Just hope he got out of bed (preferably not his own ) the right side that morning

Phew!!...i thourght it might be worse. 3 points and a £60 fine is ok.
Indeed it is a driving ban at over 100mph.....Do they take work/livelyhood circumstances into consideration before giving a ban?
Anybody got one of those radar jammers that are also used for opening automatic gates...are they any good and how much are they and where can i get one?
many thanks guys....smurfy

yeah that van is there pretty much everyday nearly, it uses a laser gun and video camera.
the lrc100 device that the groupbuy's were for could of prevented the ticket.
if you travel down that road a lot the police have a webitre to tell your where the van will be on any given day.

not much use to you now but could stop the same thing happening again.

have you got the nip yet ??. when you saw the van it could of allready clocked you so it could be worse.
if you have eagle eyes and were able to slow down enough remember that speedo's also overread when compared to a gps unit. When im doing 70 in the scoob the gps reports 64-65 mph, and 80mph is 74mph, so you may be ok as cambs police follow the apco guidelines "excerpt below" which would allow you 79mph and below is ok, so if you are sure you were doing 83mph your actual spped would be below 79mph. its a bit of a devils advocate depending on when you saw the van and when it actually read your speed.
The police will not enforce below the published ACPO guidelines of 10% plus 2 mph over the posted speed limit. The Police have made it clear that in recognition of ACPO guidelines on speed enforcement their role remains unchanged. Compliance of the legal speed limit is essential to reduce casualties. In 1996 NRPS (National Road Policing Strategy) set as an aim and objective to ‘contribute to the reduction of death or injury, damage or fear on our roads’. Casualty reduction is therefore at the heart of core policing activities

Thanks pbee. I had the NIP come this morning. Photo got me at Stukeley...87 in a 70mph. I was doing a lot lot faster then that when i caught a glimps of the camera and slammed on the brakes. So i don't have any complaints It turned out to be an expensive day because i got fined £30 in North Yorkshire for an illegal number plate on the same day. Thourght i had avoided the camera ticket on the A14 as it was facing west bound as i went eastbound and was on the bridge above the opposite westbound carriageway....but alas!

UK Law, fines and points.
Known officially in the UK as "EXCEEDING SPEED LIMIT", this table shows baseline penalties you can expect. It's correct as of December 2001. Each case will be looked at individually, to assess factors such as time of day, road type and conditon, weather conditions etc. The fine is now also based upon the financial circumstances of the offender, leading to payment within 12 months.
Offence Fine Costs Penalty Points
up to 15mph over the posted limit £44 £30 3
16mph to 25mph over the posted limit £45-£100 £30 4
26mph to 35mph over the posted limit £45-£200 £30 5-6
36mph or more over the posted limit £67-£300 £30 Ban 1 month to 12 months
The current guidelines from the Association of Chief Police officers (ACPO) are:
Limit Fixed Penalty Summons
20 mph 25 mph 35 mph
30 mph 35 mph 50 mph
40 mph 46 mph 66 mph
50 mph 57 mph 76 mph
60 mph 68 mph 86 mph
70 mph 79 mph 96 mph
So up to 79mph you should be just told off, 79-95mph is a fixed penalty and 96mph+ is a mandatory summons to appear in court.

For speeding, a period of disqualification is ALWAYS at the discretion of the Magistrates. For speeds over the magic 100, a ban is almost inevitable but it could be as short as a couple of weeks. Expect a fine of around a couple of hundred max, and at least three points. Costs could be 50 quid too.
