service help/oil change?????????????
this could sound daft but i need a bit of help so here goes -
i bought my car last september (MY00) after its 30,000 major service (£305) - since then ive only done 2,500 miles do i only need the oil changing as its been 6 months or do i need my intermediate service (£75) one and what does this entail? do they just change the oil/plugs etc? my car has full service history BTW
its also always been run using castrol gtx magnitec (its what the dealers put in - is this ok?)
any help much appreciated
Thanks
Jud

OIL CHANGE
Is your car in a low state of modification??? if so then you will do no harm whatsoever with the magnatec oil..It is to be said thou that Castrol like many other large companys have one hec of a good marketing team and the oil they supply is possibly no better than a lesser make with the same grade.
If your car is Modified than there may well be a better oil on the market for your car, as for which then that is all down to personal choice etc.(nothing too thin thou)
As for should i service it at 6 Months? the answer is yes and if history with a dealer is important to you then again yes get them to do it for the sake of £75.if not then change it your self..
Hope this has helped...ROB..

They use 5/40 shell helix... its too thin for my car(my95)
I`ll be using Prosport from now on.... they are very clued up and care about what they do...

Robinsons are OK. I used them for my last service, they advised that the Motul 15/50W I supplied was too thick as they recommend 5/40W but were happy to put mine in. I use Prosport for all not warranty work and recommend them highly.

If you read the many posts on here regarding oil you would conclude that 5/30W is too thin, the popular oils are Castrol 10/60W or Motul 15/50W. Motul is a good choice but maybe you should go for the 15/50W, only thing I find is when cold the car feels tight. This has been put down to the thickness of the oil when cold, IM recommend 5/40W for my P1 but 15/50W is fine. It's all very confusing.
