I Need To Get Back on The Scene! What will I buy?
I need help. I want to get back on the scooby scene after selling my terzo about 4 months ago (big regrets!).
I am so confused as to what to buy! What will I buy? I will go to £15,000 & want a warranty & need finance (cc allowance).
I still love the classic shape and have to buy Sonic Blue
Is a STi Type-R V4 an import?
Reliable?

You will pay more for insurance on a Type R but for that sort of money there is no better car, trust me (coz I have one too!)
That said, I spoke to a guy today who lives near me with a import WRX (non sti) with minor mods and he was paying a hell of a lot more than me, probably because he hadn't shopped about.
Other plus points of the 'R - still holding good value, they look gorgeous, have rarity value and generally out perform most other scoobs. They also have a few trick bits as standard (variable diff lock, blueprinted engine, big brakes etc.) so you do get more for your money.
Go on - you won't regret it!

Type R's, great though they may be, are no good if a warranty is required. If warranty is a deal-breaking issue then you'd have to look at a MY03 WRX (possibly PPP'd) or a MY02 STi type UK. If a classic shape is what you *must* have you'll have to find a UK car with an extended warranty. Unfortunately all the 'classic' STi derivatives are (grey) import only so insurance may be tricky with non-specialist firms, and there will be no warranty at all.

If you buy an import, to run it without worries you will need to get it remapped to UK fuel.
A good choice might be to stretch a couple more k and get a P1 with extended warranty. This will match the rest of your specified criteria, however no driver-controlled diff lock

15k should get you a very nice V5 STi Type R... The V4 is an expensive one in terms of an ECU swap. STi 5 has the option of the very well priced TEK2/3, seriously fast with a few tweaks...
