dip stick reading?
hi,
every time i check the oil level in my MY04 WRX i have to dip about 10 times to get a sensible level. one side of the dip stick shows nothing, and the other shows oil about half way between the 2 holes. is this normal?
cheers

It's difficult. Do it when engine is warm, stop it and wait about 5 min, pull dipstick out and clean, insert dipstick back in then pull back out right away and fast enough without jerking it then read level right away. It seems the oil doesn't stick to the dipstick very long almost as if it was coated with teflon. You might still have to do it several times. Never check it when cold because you'll never get any accurate reading. Do not read the other side of the dipstick because as it goes in at an angle the other side will usually read to much oil. DO NOT OVERFILL!

ive always checked when cold, cos i thought u had to wait to let the oil settle back, but i will give it a try thnx!
only done 2k since 1st 1k oil change, so hopefully not used too much, im just getting crap readings.
not even sure what oil to use to top up with - will have to talk to dealer...

Buzz - I had same problem on WRX 03 and eventually did identify oil was a tad low. Put in 0.5 litre and reading shot up to top mark. Watch out re overfilling!
