Default Age Old Question 0- how much for one of the best MY99s ever?

Well, I would say that, wouldn't I? But truth is that it has been my pride and joy from birth (March 99 - T-plate) and there is a possibility of acquiring my ultimate dream, a P1.

But as always, money's the thing. I've spent more than £6,000 on my Green wagon, always sensible add ons, both performance and cosmetic, and I am desperate for it to go a good home intact, although I realise I may have to resort to restoring to its original state and selling the bits (but there's so many, it'd be an awful task).

I'm what is euphemistically called a mature driver which tends to support the theory that it's never been abused. So, the BIG question: what does anyone think it's worth? Here's a list of things I've had done to my Sooby:

Registered March 29th 1999 (T-reg)
Owners Owned from new
Mileage Now 63,000
MoT to March 2005
Tax to March 2005
Full SSH (to be serviced March 11, 2004, 75K service)
Tyres: 4 Toyo Proxy TS-1 Tyres (fitted February 2004 @ 62,544 miles)

Performance Extras

11) GoodridgeStainless steel braided brake hoses (TSL)
12) EBC grooved and drilled discs front and back, with EBC "green" pads (September 2003)
13) Broquet Fuel Catalyst
Cosmetic and ICE Extras
1) Front end re-spray (remove stone chips)
2) Air con (dealer fitted)
3) Standard 5-spoke wheels but uniquely re-furbished in light reflecting metallic green
4) Subaru stainless steel rear treadplate (dealer fitted)
5) Subaru moulded rubber impact protection strips (dealer fitted)
6) Subaru rubber mat set
7) Subaru headlight "carbon effect" protectors
8) Black metal TSL-style fog light protectors
9) TSL Sti front bumper "spoiler"

15) Carbon effect cover for instrument cowel (fascia)
16) Alloy pedals
17) Kenwood KRC-479 radio/cassette (remote control) + Infinity 605CS front speakers
18) Kenwood 10 CD changer
19) Momo "Air" gear ****
20) Tinted windows all round (5 year guarantee)
21) Personalised number plates and original (legal) design)

Default More thoughts

Hmmm, seems strange to see me listed as a Scooby Newbie as I've on here for 5 years (had to re-register when Scoobynet changed).

Anyway, humble apologies for spelling Scooby incorrectly (Soooby!!!).

As for pricing, Parkers Guide suggests around £8,350 in standard guise with 40,000 miles. Mileage adjustment may be £8,000, but around £8,700 with air con? Perhaps £9,000 because it is in showroom condition (the Wax Wizard has worked his magic and I've kept it going).

But with all the extras (I know, very subjective with regards to value), surely it's got to be more? Performance wise, it's set up to be along the lines of an RB5WR Sport (I have tested one and I think mine has the edge!) but loads more goodies.

Is £11,500 too optimistic given it has all the add ons, brand new tyres, and will have a year's MoT and tax, plus a new service?

I've got pictures but no idea how to upload them. Anyone help?

I'm sure I've forgotten something - it least that'll give me a chance to keep this thread visible!

cheers

I think £11500 is a bit optimistic There was a very similar car - MY99 Green Wagon, less miles PPP etc. in the for sale section recently for £7500.

If someone offered me £11500 for my 'W' Reg DBM 4 Door 33k miles I'd be selling it.

Good luck with the sale.

Cheers,

Ian.

Default one image you can see...

TSL have a picture on their web site of a chrome gear lever surround and gaitor. It also shows the knocklink and lamda sensor Bob Rawle fitted, plus my Momo air gear ****.

Default keep 'em coming

Thanks Ian - appreciate your comments. Obviously I want to get the best price possible but before I put it up for sale (if that's what I do!), I want to make sure I'm not wasting my time by asking an unreasonable price.

Same old problem, isn't it? If the right person at the right time wants a car like this with these mods, all will be well. But a lot of the fun of Scoobies is getting it basic and building up to what the individual wants from the car.

I really do want to avoid the hassle of reducing it to standard, but maybe that's what I'll have to do and let it go for around £8,500 as per Parkers guide.

But I'll persevere for the moment with the car as it stands - anyone got any more advice or suggestions of what it may be worth?

I think as stated, you will be very lucky to get 11.5k, 9k would be average for a T MY99 car, the aircon will add some value as its desirable but just to show you what your up against, i sold my car in december, it was an MY00 with quite alot done to it, it was in for sale or return and i got 11995, this included throwing in the tracking system which cost me 900 quid. My old car had half the miles on it yours does and was 1 year newer and at a dealer price.. you could try going for 10k though and have that little bit of bargaining power in there.

Default the real world...

Good grief - this board moves fast! I'll be disappearing off page 700 by the end of the day!

Thanks Tony for your thoughts. It always seems sad that a car that's cost over £26,000 may end up at around £10,000 in just 5 years, but hey, that's the real world.

I should know in the next day or so the score with the P1 and then its decision time - at least I'll have an idea of the ball park for my Scoob. But I'll keep banging this thread up the list for further comments. You never know - someone may actually think it's just the car they've always been looking for!

Default and a dumb question

btt

and a dumb question?

why does the last reply always appear as the first message?

When I read a new thread, it's the first post that tells you what it's about and the replies that keep you going.

If it's the other way round, no-one's got any idea what the hell it's all about unless you go to the end and work backwards.

There's obviously a simple solution...?

Thumbs up

I've just bought another scooby this week, so I'm pretty up on the prices. Personnally I would not of given 11.5k for the motor you just describer. I think you need to be look around the late 8 early 9 mark.

When I sold MY94 in 2002 I couldn't give the thing away, best bid was 4.5k so I ended up actually giving it back to the finance company :-(

I set the advert at 9k and work your way from there.

Default scary or what?

Getting down to £8K - that's frightening! I'm assuming that's based on the standard car with all the bits stripped off?

Anyway, keep 'em coming guys - I'll have to make a decision today if the P1 is a reality, and that's far from confirmed (money, money, money - that's the key!).

cheers everyone

Strip the car back to how it started, your should get a few quid if you sell the bits here and on sidc, lessen the blow from the sale.

its the market and it wont get anybetter

I know its a lot of car for the money but its only money

Best advice is to strip the car down to pretty much standard. Keep additions that are factory fit or mark it out slightly from the crowd. i.e. Aircon and a *few* cosmetic items. Best tips for selling is to identify your target buyer and "dress" the car to suit.
This is a 5dr, so I suggest that the prospective buyer is going to value FSSH, aircon, luxuary bits, etc. Strip all performance items out, since you sell or p/x for the originals. Backbox is a tricky one, since it is a 5dr the Scoobysport may be too loud for some people. If you are going to buy a P1, then it's worth keeping certain items to transfer across or keep as spares. (discs, pads, decat, etc).

If you list out all the mods and add up how much you could sell them for individually you will quickly realise that stripping the car is much more profitable than keeping it as it is.

I tend to think people scan through the ads and look for things in the following order:
1) Price
2) Year
3) Mileage
4) Detailed spec (ad-ons, etc)

If you can hook people in on price, year and mileage then you will get people travelling from much further afield to look at your car. When you get them, you can always try flogging the mods to them as well!

Andy

Default sound advice

Andy/Wakeboardar - sound advice that makes a lot of sense.

I have done the deed and bought a P1. I won't be picking it up for about 3 weeks, so I've got options:

1) Offer it on here less the bits I want to transfer to the P1 for one week. If the right person is around to pay the right price (around £10K) so be it.

2) If 1) doesn't work, then next weekend the big strip begins and I'll try again on Scoobynet for another week as a mostly standard car (around £8.5K).

3) After that, it's off to Top Marques (and Autotrader) and offer for sales the bits that are left on Scoobynet and on SIDC

That's the plan. May take a few weeks to shift, but I can just about manage that. Any further suggestions most welcome!

Thanks again everyone

If I were you I would strip the car back to standard and flog the bits separately, you should get £8k for the car and possibly £1,000 ish for the mods.
