Subaru Legacy B4 RSK Twin turbo ?
#3
I checked one from inside out at a showroom
Was very impressed with the much higher standard and amount of equipment inside eg digital climate a/c,graphite effect(I was jealous) .Also there is much more effort to cover unsightly fixings eg in the boot area.
The impreza is probably more of a fun/no frills car in comparrison to the legacy, and the legacy is more car for the same money(this particular one was cheaper than an earlier impreza in the same showroom).
If the B4 was used to win rallys instead of the impreza, then I would probably be driving one instead of an STi5.Whats more is that it is capable of performing like an impreza, and the body is lighter (supposedly)not to mention an extra turbo.
The majority of visible mechanical parts are the same aswell.
I was very tempted to p/x but overall I think most prefer a recognised, acomplished car as oppose to a car with a'WANNABE'immage.
Resale might be tricky( unless someone decides it will be the next 'HERO CAR' in a 'FAST AND FURIOUS'sequel.blah blah blah......

Carterjohn,
If you don't want 'bling 'n' spoilers', the Leggy is great, with a stealth factor of 10.
It's generally higher spec, and better built and has a lot more room.
Modding has to be done carefully, especially on the engine side.
B4 models can be ECUTEKed.
280bhp man, 260bhp auto/triptronic, so it's no slouch
It's never pretended to be a 'WANNABE', it's completely different animal, more of a GT car, than a point to point racer.

They're horrible things Quick, nice interiors, have more goodies etc and have devastated sales of the std WRX here.
I've a feeling the WRX may get a boost due to the new Legacy being a bit more expensive, but the older shape B4 is certainly a good motor if you aren't after a big WRX, but are after a more grown up Scooby IMHO. The TTs are tougher to tune, and treating one like a Rex can result in tears rather quickly.
Try to get one with McIntosh audio (a factory option) if your mate is after good tunes without wanting to whack an aftermarket system in.
When purchasing watch for all the usual Scooby issues, and keep in mind that the BE5A and B (maybe the C rev too, but I can't remember) use the blasted MAF of 99/00 UK Impreza infamy. C rev got an improved brake booster and pedal design that made feedback much better. D rev is the final model and most desireable IMHO (basically the whole car was upgraded). Also try to get a squiz at the ECU as they are often replaced with tuner stuff that may not be well suited to UK fuel.
Desireable mods IMHO (in no particular order): Fujitsubo Legalis type R Evolution back box, end-links, earthing, swaybars, 4 pots, upgrade pads/discs. On early cars: rear "side performance bars" from the D rev are a popular mod and help keep the rear planted.
HTH
PS. FWIW I have a BE5B and have had no issues (touching every bit of wood I can find), but have had a couple of "MAF-moments" I also run many of the mods above, plus a few others
