there not allowed to work on them or summthing to that effect, or the dealer will lose there franchise
my local one is a pain in the ****
they wanted a chassis number so i could buy sum headlamp protectors, i told them it was a jap car and they tried to tell me they couldnt orderd them
i argued with the parts bloke and told him
"look, dont be daft, i can get you 2 uk chassis numbers from me mates cars, or ill just have them come in and order the parts themselves, im trying to give you sum ****en money"
and they decieded they could order them but if they didn fit i couldnt have my money back (pleeeeeeaaaase get sum non retard staff)
they then bumped up the price of the headlamp protectors (mate had bought sum much much cheaper a month or so before) so i told them to **** off

know exactly waht you mean - they tried to do that to me with a header tank.
Bit peed of with mine know cos ive had it 2 months and have bought:
clutch
headertank
heater control unit
and it still needs the wing respaying
spose 5500 is not bad for a 96 jap wagon is it?

This is the down side of buying a JDM car over a UK car (plus apart from the small TD04 turbo in the WRX wagon, the same UK wagon has a bigger turbo!).
You cannot go and give a UK subaru dealer hassle if your car is not supported by them, you can however look around and find a few speciallists in your area (or do a search on the net) and find who can supply you with the items your after.

The early JDM wagons came with a TD04 turbo (as in the UK MY99 onwards cars) and 220ps (on 100 ron fuel). A uk my99 car will be a match for an early JDM wagon without any problems, if either one was modified though, the modified car would be slightly quicker (the standard exhaust is the old 2 pea shooter type on both).
The MY96 saloon verson of the WRX was rated at 260ps, a 40ps increase over the WRX wagon of the same year (different turbo, ecu etc).
