depends on what you want. IMHO you are selling a *reliable* and more capabale car for one that is rarer.
If the paperwork is all in order and engineer report etc etc syas ok, then I dont suppose its a bad deal.
All depends on the reason why you are selling yours I suppose. Obviously it has high miles, and if it had been modded at all then this may suggest some tlc will be needed with the engine, quite possibly it will need work on it in the future anyway.

I personally would not buy a heavily modded cosworth, especially if it was my only means of transport.

Yes, as above. That car needs to be checked VERY thoroughly....not by any old "Engineer" (most certainly not an AA man). You need someone who know's their cossies inside out.
Also you need to know how long/ many miles it's been running that amount of BHP, as it could well be in need of a rebuild and a recon turbo soon. Same goes for the transmission, last thing you want is the front drive shaft mashing everything up (I've seen it so often). I mean 250-300Bhp is OK, but 398Bhp is pushing things, especially if it's not done right.

Hi everyone,
Paddylads Missus here, decided to get in on the act now he's had this brain numbing idea that a Escort Cose, (Typical Daves Car)is more practical than his scooby. Saw the (only word for it) 'cornflake box' car tonite, and turned my back on it. I admit I've got very attached to the scooby, and am trying everything to get him to keep it!!

Ive heard of something like this before, if its the same then the cossie will turn out to be a ringer.
Check the Vin plate very carefully.
Also the other guy might not want the hassle but for 3 grand ? most of us would jump through hoops naked for that !

if the car HAS to be sold tomeorrow morning then its dodgy. simple as that. if hes keen on the terzo and is willing to wiat for you to take an engineers report then it should be ok. if hes looks as though hes got something to hide then thats because he has.
my advice: say yes youll take it if you want it on the condition of an engineers report which YOU will pay for IF you get the ok from the engineer. if he agrees to this then hes confident and if its ok then youre saving a packet and some money for a report wont be too harsh if he agrees to this . if he says no to this them run a mile
and obviously dont forget vin numbers HPI check etc etc if you do want to buy it

paddylad have just read your thread selling your car in For Sale, a highly modded Esc Cos ie 398bhp will cost you far more to insure than a Scoob, thats if you will be able to get insurance on it with only being 20 yrs old. Petrol consumption is an average of 18-19mpg if your're lucky for one with that much bhp

Aparently its his wifes birthday today and its for her. The reason being is that she wants a 4 door car, so its easier for her to get the children in and out, and also she has another baby on the way. Seems a bit dodgy to me!!

Paddy ....
DO NOT Buy the car!!! I had a friend who had his Cossie tuned to 320BHP. He was advised that anymore than this ...would mean GREAT HEADACHE(S)...Maintenance etc etc etc..
If u want a 4 door saloon go for a 320/325i Beemer...VERY Reliable and wont hurt u as long as u look after it...I have an F Reg (1989) which runs like a dream (Touch Wood)...It is my work car and as my Adrenalin rush I have a Prodrive spec'ed WR Sport...and that puts the BIGGEST Smile on my face
DONT BUY IT!

Does sound iffy to me but bear with it on the sale of your car. The trouble you have is that you are trying to sell it on a site where everyone already has one. Your car does look beautiful and I don't think you will have a problem selling it
