Question

A while ago I noticed people having the same problem as me when exceeding 120mph a whining noise thats sounds like a horn is heard very loud within the car.

I'm sure there's nothing wrong with my motor and am eager to know whats is causing it.

anyone?, hopefully between us we can narrow this down.

Gotta say, my whining noise starts above 45 on a national limit road

I take it you drive often on german autobhans or on racetracks? Not a good discussion to have on a public forum...

Thats funny yours is heard so early, I get my sound at around the 135mph mark .......... almost like a fog horn in the mist?

A top engineer told me it was the slighty (manufacturers tolerances) out-of-balance propshaft - nowt to worry about.

Not sure if it's the same thing, but I get a noise similar to rubbing your finger around the rim of a wine glass (only a lower tone) at 61-64mph (MY03 WRX), regardless of gear. Took it to Isleworth Subaru and they'd never heard of a similar problem and had no ideaa what it was.

Any suggestions, think it may be loose trim in the drivers side wheel arch or engine bay.

I get the whine at 62mph as well. The dealer says it is the rear diff and are going to replace it. I'll let you know if it does once they get on in stock.

Yes, I've got an MY03 WRX SL. I've been waiting about 3 weeks for the diff to be ordered, the dealer forgot to order until I chased last week.
