an amusing programme but fundamentally flawed:

- the MZ3 is no longer being made and always suffered from nuclear depreciation (and a dreadful back suspension)
- the Elise is not a practical every day car (I had one - they didn't point out that it likes to kiss its **** goodbye in the wet, your bum goes numb after 60 miles, it's a nightmare to get in and out of, too noisy to hear the radio on the motorway and is slow above 60mph!)
- to be fair to his bird, the scoob is f'ugly

- the Griffith 500 also isn't an every day car (and I'd be reluctant to let any but the most experienced out in it). they didn't once mention insurance for this thing or the fact it'll spend most of it's life having it's poxy electrics repaired and bits stuck back on

it's a sad indictment of the car industry when someone with £30k to spend has such a poor choice of practical good looking performace cars to choose from.

rant over!

A new model may be out at any time with better specification and a lower price.
So I must have imagined sitting in two STi 8s then...

Yes, I know!!!

But you can bet that it won't be long before the STi9,10 or whatever will have these upgrades though. Then all the people who bought STi8's will feel like the STi7 owners do now!!

I've got no problem with improvements to the spec or better value for money but the fact remains that Subaru UK are now selling vehicles for £24,995 which originally cost £27,495 and STILL there are reliability and durability issues with them.

Rob,

Trouble is this has happened for years and years and with every manufacturer, it's BBNCS- Buying a Brand New Car Syndrome.

So it would have been better to make the STI8 30K then the STI9 32K then the STi10 34K. Means if you keep your car 3 years its going to cost you a fortune to replace. It called, price to swap, dont get hung up about residuals as if the new car has been reduced then you can afford to lose a bit more on your own.

still think the 2nd hand griff was the best buy of the selection though - since the yellow elise will lose 8k in value in a year where the TVR has already shed a huge amount of value - also poor advice to trade-in his audi to a dealer and accept a lower price than he would get privately.

I can also think of about a dozen vehicles I would rather have than the selection offered at £30k sterling too - ho hum - I never did rate this program much + the presenters really are irritating.

chrisp,

The STi7 Prodrive cost £27,495 so it would have been better to make the STi8 (and 9 & 10) £27,495 - then current owners don't feel like Subaru UK of IM are taking the pi55 and new owners are getting an improved vehicle.

I don't suppose Fuji are selling STi8's to Subaru UK for over £2k less are they - which means an awful lot of extra profit from sales of the 7.

You can buy a UK spec Euro import STi8 OTR for 23,395K (look at teh banner ads at teh top of the screen) how many do you think Subaru UK would sell at 27,500 ??? Thats the problem they had to reduce the price to remain in the game or keep the price the same and fill the cars with extra. Then people would moan I dont want this and that and the other can you knock 2.5K off instead .

Rob-rex, what a moan,

1st thing subaru engines dont go bang, their reliabilty is brilliant, but as with any manufacturer you get a few probs, look at the ford focus and that guy who rolled his car cos his brakes failed.

2nd thing, No manufacturer will look at a car if its been modified or been raced around a circuit, were lucky that subaru and prodrive are working together and keeping our warranties valid.

3rd thing, cars are not investments, they will always loose you **** loads of money, buy 2nd hand couple yrs old and that way your ahead of the game.

So sorry to say some of the probs your faced with are your own making, and you may also have a crap dealer.

Well, I'm pleased they didn't go for the STi otherwise the presenters may also have pointed out.............

The shocking depreciation now that the STi8 is on sale.

That a further £2k is required plus a long wait to have PPP fitted to give it the performance is should have had originally.

That the engine may go bang for any number of reasons and SUK won't want to know if you have made even the slightest modification to it.

If you take it on a circuit, it may be spotted by Subaru so that they can find another reason to invalidate the warranty.

The rear suspension will knock and rattle. The dealer will replace some parts and then it will STILL be just as bad.

It will splutter and hesitate when cold like no modern engine has any right to do these days. The dealer may then tell you that the wrong brand of fuel is being used.

The fuel pump isn't up to the job.

A new model may be out at any time with better specification and a lower price.

Sorry to rant - it's just not a good time to own an STi7 UK at the moment!!
