Has any of you guys fitted your own detatchable swan neck Brink towbar ? I'm going to fit one on my 98 wagon and was wondering what kind of a job it would be.
Going to do a 2 socket install.

Any advice gladly appreciated

Thanks

Steve

Mine has a Witter on it, non-detatchable type, but the towball on ALL towbars covers the number plate, so you have to take the ball off.
Takes me 30 seconds to do, and my towbar was £140 FITTED, without electrics, which I did myself using the OE Subaru plug-in unit.

I was glad I let them fit it, as the cross-beam fouled the TSL Group N back box. The fitter made a bracket to drop the exhaust 10mm and that cured it.

Thanks for the info AL Even though it fouls the number plate I might leave it on as a reversing aid for the wife

Behind the o/s light cluster.......you get at it by removing the boot inner lining.

Ok , M8 no worries, it was a bit too far to travel for me and I don't think he really wanted to post it. Do you know what they retail for BTW.

I'd be inclined to get a NON-detachabel one from Brink, or Witter, as they can have the towball removed with two spanners in under 30 seconds.

That's what I have.

Price is about £120, or £150 fitted.

Had a Subaru detachable towbar fitted to my STi8 by the dealer.

Cost nearly £300 fitted, but you can't see anything from behind the car when it's not in use, unlike the Brink design. You really wouldn't know it's there. Even the electric socket is on a bracket that swivels up behind the rear bumper and out of sight.

I had a Witter "fixed" towbar on my last car, a WRX, and although I could unbolt the tow ball, this still left the bracket and electric socket in plain view.

Depends on how discreet you want it I guess.
