Got mine through today too, as you say if you don't renew it something is bound to go wrong I know £410 is steep but hey if you have to have some work done your be pleased you took it out.
Cheers

Bought my (MY99) Scooby last November from Subaru dealer , just had my letter from them telling me I can extend it for 1 year for £410 , does this seem a bit steep ? If this was for 2 years I would take them up on it .Any of you had different prices .
Thanks in advance

Sounds a bit steep to me. With a rising stock market it might be better sense to put the £410 into a tracker fund for two years. At the end of that time if nothing has gone wrong then you'll probably have made a few quid. As with all insurance you have to weigh up the risks. If you have an aftermarket air filter or other work on the induction side then perhaps £410 isn't so much :-)

Thanks for the replys guys ,I get what your saying , it's always going to be a 'sods law' situation I guess .I just wonder if this is a bit steep or is it like insurance and they make it up as they go along ?

I got reciepts for something like £7.5k, paid for by IM/Subaru UK, after my engine smoked itself a couple years back. I didn't begrudge paying for the extra 2 years after that LOL

I extended my warranty in march - using the unlimitted one as i was over 60k miles. It cost about what you said.
Since then i've had:
MAF sensor - £220
ABS controller - £200 + a lot of labour to diagnose etc
Alarm bracket - £not much ;-)
Alarm aerial shielding - ~£30
Today my car is in for gearbox seal leak, and rear main seal leak. This is going to take 2 days so I hazard to think how many hours labour. My clutch is being changed while it's in, just for cost of parts, as engine already apart.
I reckon the £400 odd was worth it !!!

i decided not to renew it on my my99. since then have replaced:-
- maf, £75
- plug leads, £114
still a healthy coupla hundred quid in profit. manufacturing defects happen early on in a products life. if its not a defect, then its wear and tear and wont be replaced by warranty anyway...

I think Price differences for "Extended" Warranty and a "1 year" Warranty
If you have a Full service and extend at the end of the 3 Year Warranty period, £440 ish for 2years. If the Car has a break in service's records or have taken up 'after' the end of the 3 year Period, then £410 for 1 year.
IMHO AFAIR etc.

I was vacillating over whether to fork out for the extended warranty on my MY99. Thankfully I did as since then I've had a new rear diff (£1000ish), new wheel bearing, new maf and lambda sensor and a new alarm bracket! I'd do it if I were you.

ahhh, that would be why I have those prices on an invitation to buy an extended warranty from Subaru. Shame the car was written off in January!
