Got mine through today too, as you say if you don't renew it something is bound to go wrong I know £410 is steep but hey if you have to have some work done your be pleased you took it out.
Cheers
Colin

Bought my (MY99) Scooby last November from Subaru dealer , just had my letter from them telling me I can extend it for 1 year for £410 , does this seem a bit steep ? If this was for 2 years I would take them up on it .Any of you had different prices .
Thanks in advance
Dave

Look on the bright side - if you have one claim, you are likely to break even, possibly be in profit. Only you can decide if the risk vs cost is VFM.

Sounds a bit steep to me. With a rising stock market it might be better sense to put the £410 into a tracker fund for two years. At the end of that time if nothing has gone wrong then you'll probably have made a few quid. As with all insurance you have to weigh up the risks. If you have an aftermarket air filter or other work on the induction side then perhaps £410 isn't so much :-)

Yep after two years you're likely to be the proud owner of about £439

Thanks for the replys guys ,I get what your saying , it's always going to be a 'sods law' situation I guess .I just wonder if this is a bit steep or is it like insurance and they make it up as they go along ?

I got reciepts for something like £7.5k, paid for by IM/Subaru UK, after my engine smoked itself a couple years back. I didn't begrudge paying for the extra 2 years after that LOL

I extended my warranty in march - using the unlimitted one as i was over 60k miles. It cost about what you said.

Since then i've had:
MAF sensor - £220
ABS controller - £200 + a lot of labour to diagnose etc
Alarm bracket - £not much ;-)
Alarm aerial shielding - ~£30

Today my car is in for gearbox seal leak, and rear main seal leak. This is going to take 2 days so I hazard to think how many hours labour. My clutch is being changed while it's in, just for cost of parts, as engine already apart.

I reckon the £400 odd was worth it !!!

i decided not to renew it on my my99. since then have replaced:-

- maf, £75
- plug leads, £114

still a healthy coupla hundred quid in profit. manufacturing defects happen early on in a products life. if its not a defect, then its wear and tear and wont be replaced by warranty anyway...

Old fart - did they put a Porsche turbo engine back in for you for the inconveniance? 7.5 k - Holy moly! Lol,

Cal

If you look at this i think it is £440 for 2 years and not one.

£408 for me, but i ain't going for it. had a center diff, fifth gear and maf all done in the warranty so should be ok for a wee while at least...TOUCH WOOD!!!

T5NYW 05 November 2003 06:20 PM

I think Price differences for "Extended" Warranty and a "1 year" Warranty ;)

If you have a Full service and extend at the end of the 3 Year Warranty period, £440 ish for 2years. If the Car has a break in service's records or have taken up 'after' the end of the 3 year Period, then £410 for 1 year.

IMHO AFAIR etc.

No - just a "Prodrive Special" engine only 16 people had the option on....;);):D:D

I was vacillating over whether to fork out for the extended warranty on my MY99. Thankfully I did as since then I've had a new rear diff (£1000ish), new wheel bearing, new maf and lambda sensor and a new alarm bracket! I'd do it if I were you.

Scoob99 06 November 2003 04:16 PM

CharlieBoy
Have you had your Scoob from new?? cos i just phoned Subaru assit and they told me you can only have the 2 year one at £440 if you have owed the car from new.
Cheers
Colin

scoob_babe 06 November 2003 04:24 PM

ahhh, that would be why I have those prices on an invitation to buy an extended warranty from Subaru. Shame the car was written off in January!
