New key for WRX '03
#1
Does anyone know where I can get a key programmed for a WRX '03. I'm fed up of the clunky size of it when I actually don't need the buttons because I use my alarm remote- so I want to get a normal key like the old 2000 Turbo ones.
A locksmith can give me a blank they think will work but can't program it. The local garage wants £40 for a blank plus £20 to program it plus VAT and cutting. The car needs to go in to the workshop, which is unavoidable I think.
Rather steep to save pocket space!

is this a uk car or EU import ??.
I have a EU import and because of my clifford install the oem immobliser has been disabled. and have atually removed the batteries from the subaru remote.
I could get a small blank key made to cut down the size but doesnt bother me.
if yours is a uk car didnt they come with the alarm controls built into the key anyway ??. The one I test drove did.
If its a EU car and you have had a aftermarket alarm fitted are you sure you subaru immobiliser is still active ??.

pbee,
it's from Belgium and yes the immobiliser is still active (the key sign on the dash still lights up)- I'm surprised they disabled it to fit your Clifford- the more immobilisers the better!
Unfortunately the alarm I bought could not be configured to work using the key buttons, hence my problem.

I had the same question - on UK my01 the subaru cat1 alarm has a seperate 'fob' which locks/unlocks as well as controlling the alarm/imob, but still have a 'large' key with lock and unlock buttons which are disabled. Seems a bit if a waste of space

nah im just unlucky, I could leave my car parked at fort knox and some thieving scum bag will have a go at nicking it.
serious though i do not have the battery in the original key, check with your alarm installer, or just take the battery out and try and start the car, a lot of aftermarket cat 1 alarms replace the oem immobliser (clifford scorpion ect) for a cat 1 immoboliser variant. The exceptions are the sigma m32 and it appears the sigma m30 Subaru UK fit appear to be more like cat 2-1 upgrades and hence keep the oem immoboliser and they supply a key with the transponder in it.
try starting your car with the battery from the key removed, you might be suprised.
cheers

pbee,
just called the alarm fitters and they didn't disable it. He was telling me they only do it for Cliffords with remote start and basically one way around it is to take the immobiliser chip out and put it out of sight in the dash near enough for the transponder to work. Poss. why the key still flashes....
Never mind....think I'll stick with the Tonka key

Buy a nice STI key, take your crappy subaru key apart and take out the little transmitter chip, stick the chip in your column casing so that it transmits, then use your nice shiny STI key

All subaru keys hace twin scroll locking diff active yaw sensors.
You can also hit anyone attacking you with your key, this should be sufficiant to allow time to make good your escape.

Word of warning, my Clifford 500 locked me out of the car when the blackjax went off.
It is capable of locking the car up on its own, in alarmed blackjax state.
The Clifford fob on its own wont work to open the car.
wont give more details on open forum, just don’t lock yourself out of you own car
