Fight the steering

Morning all !!!
I have noticed over the past week or so that the steering has altered on my MY02 WRX, excuse the terminology as I'm not too mechanically minded but, it constantly feels like the car is pulling to the left or the right (it seems to change), I've checked the tire pressure just in case, that's fine !!! I've thought about having the steering geometry tested but wouldn't know where to go (heard the dealers will only check it to Subaru Spec), I've also heard the phrase bump steer, is this potentially the problem ???
Has anybody else suffered a similar situation ??
Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!
Last thing, Any Manchester runs going to Chester on Sunday, I may be able to make and would love to meet up !!!

What tyres are you running and how worn are they? If you are still on the Bridgestones that came with the car, it is probably down to them. The Bridegestones tramline horrificly the more they wear. When mine where at the end of their life you really had to concentate on keeping the car in a straight line when going of ridges and lumps.

Neewby ....should be able to get Goodyears for under £90 a corner. There was a thread on here a while back and I got mine for about £60 each (puls £10 each to fit ). try a search ,or have a look in the Scooby shop on here . You will find that most seem to prefer Toyo's or Goodyear f1's . I find that with the F1's the ride seems a little harder (and I have checked the pressure) .

You are looking at £99.40 per tyre (goodyear eagle f1 gds3) from www.mytyres.net for standard 215/45/17. Or £73 for Toyos

if willing to drop to a 40 profile tyre.
Black circles, www.blackcircles.co.uk are £98 for the same goodyear, and £99 for the toyo in 40 profile.
Remember these are shipped to your house prices and need to get them fitted on top. Although blackcircles offer a limited area fitting for free.
Just noticed you are in the Manchester area, could try the tyre place at the back of Tom Gardner Peugot garage at the end of Deansgate, sorry can't remeber the name of it, but got a sos so quote from them, think worked out around £110 per tyre fitted - about 6 months ago

The F1's grip better than the Bridgestones, but you will find the car seems to wallow around and the turn in won't be as sharp due to the soft tyre walls, which personally i don't like. But when putting the power down exiting the bends the F1's are fecking great, grip like $hit to a blanket and good in the wet,which i do like. If you can have a ride in a scoob with them fitted i would reccomend it as it all personal preference and its a fair amount of cash to spend to find you don't like it (i'm going to try something different next time).

You might want 2 consider that a caliper has seized on this under some circumstances can lead 2 these symptoms[jack it up and turn the wheels].Also u might have a trackrod end gone similar symptoms.And finaly it could be a bottom balljoint.Jack it up and shake the wheel from top 2 bottom hard[be careful it dosent come off jacks;}]if theres play the balljoints gone.shake it from side 2 side 2 test the trackrod end.

It's worth while getting the geometry checked, I know the Chemix by me check it for free - but charges if you want it adjusting. Not sure if there are any in your area.
Bear in mind the tolerances for the geometry when the car was manufactured is'nt that tight(judging by loads of threads), they can be way out from new.
This will cause un-even tyre wear, which in turn can lead to tram-lining or pulling as the tyres wear out.
Alternative free attempt at a solution is to swap the wheels around (front to back). See if that helps, make sure that the direction arrow on the tyres points the right way though (if directional tyres).
