Right I have just got back of two weeks hols, and was looking forward to picking up the scoob when I got home and taking it out for a nice long drive. However when I pushed the open button nothing, so deactivated it the un-radio way, and couldn't start as oppose to starting it just makes beep noises with the alarm. Any ideas, am off to moan tomorrow, but any help with any ideas would be good. Think battery maybe flat, but even when on jump leads with alarm deactivates, it just went tut like it was going to turn, but didn't. Cheers for any help

Chris,
I've had this problem on every car I have ever owned. Just leave the battery on charge for an hour or so and then jump start it.
Contrary to what people believe, you still need a tiny amount of charge to jump start a flat battery.
Craig.

Hi,
The exact same thing happened to my 3 month old sti8 after 2 week holiday in june.
Ive had plenty of new cars and a few of them subs but never had this fault,I just hooked it up to my optimate trickle charger and decided to mention it to the dealer only if it happens after my next holiday later this month.
I would be interested to hear what the dealer says to you if you take it in.
cheers Glim.

Use 24V Jump leads, not charger.
Normal Jumpleads from halfords are cr@p, they are usually called booster cables.
Decent jumpleads cost more and will be able to charge the car as well as withstand the starting current. Seen many a cheap pair melt.

Had exactly the same problem myself.
Left the car for a week and when I went to start it...nothing.
Dodgy batch of batteries on new MY03's methinks.

Right the car is fixed thanks to Scooby assist and my dealer, it turns out that the battery went, as when the guy from the assistance got it going, thanks to a booster pack, and let it run for a bit, before turning off to try again, the car wouldn't start the second time. Apparently the battery wasn't holding any charge, so there must be a batch of dodgy batteries for the 8s. The guy said to me that if it happens again, when jumping the car, attach to another car and leave it for around 15 minutes, or as much as poss, as this helps charge the battery before jumping. Anyone with 8s, I would get you battery checked, as its a pain in the ****. Have now got a new battery, and the car is fine, feels weird as I have been driving a Golf GTI III for the last few weeks.

I always disconnect the flshing alarm light when I go away for over 2 weeks and never have a problem starting the car when I get home.
The flashing ligt does drain the battery very quickly IIRC.

I was always under the impression that Jump starting ECU driven cars was a bad idea! If the alternator of the other car isn't governed properly, theres a chance you could fry the ECU.
