Ello to everyone, first time i've been on here and heard from a few mates this was the best forum to get advise on jap cars.

Im looking to upgrade from my current motor(Clio 16v, dont hold this against me! worst and most expensive mistake ive ever made) for a nice, slick, far east beast. I can only think of 300zx and Subaru at the mo. Always loved a subaru but what other options have i got? 6-7k budget and will be driven everyday. Insurance not a problem, company will sort that, just need some suggestions and what i should be looking for.

Cheers in advance...

After some research on the 300zx ive found this isnt really an ideal car to buy. Not doubting that it is a fantasic car, but i dont fancy driving sideways everywhere when it rains. Also servicing going to kill me, and running costs, well we wont go there.

Now the scooby on the other hand seems to be the ideal car. Whats the low down on running costs etc..? Not driving like a grandad too, realistic figures. So if im spending 7k what should i be aiming for? Correct me if im wrong, Ive been told not to buy imports because they cost a bomb when they go wrong? WHat have you guys experienced?

Last car i bought, Clio 16v, cost me more in 6 months to keep it on the road, than i paid for it. So i dont want to end up down the same track. Cheers again.

Import means you will have to get it serviced by a specialist rather than a Subaru garage , which is not such a bad thing as there are some good ones around now, and they tend to be cheaper.
Imports have to be run on SUL/Optimax(a bit more expensive)and you may have to shop around more for insurance ,they have more bhp as standard though !

that's an exageration to say the least with imports they will cost more to insure etc but there are numerous specialist garages & parts suppliers so no real difference over UK car & you will get better performance As a guide yer looking at circa 20mpg & use good petrol especially if import etc or not remapped.... Servicing every 6 months of 7500 miles whichever comes forst & anything from just under £100 to £700 odd for the big one It aint cheap to run but if you can resist too many mods then sure wont be anywhere near 7k to keep on the road if you dont buy a lemon. For that money yer looking at maybe MY97 car. If you wait you can buy me UK scooby + air con in a few months
