I put a thread on here a few days ago

my 98 WRX developed a moderate/severe misfire on light throttle, ie on roundabaouts and when driving in traffic

you could drive through it and it would run sweet when at about 4000 rpm, i had to drive back from France and it was worsening but still managed the 700 odd miles OK

it took the airflow meter (in its housing off) assuming it was this that had died, however the new part was wrong so put the car back together(i pulled off no. 1 plug lead to be nosey and put it back on again), it now runs sweet and there are no fault codes in the ECU and no one can find anything wrong

I now don't trust the car and don't want to randomly change expensive bits, anyone have any ideas what it was (don't think it was fuel as i put atleast 4 tanks in and the problem stayed)

I am also scared it will die a big death when i don't need it too!!

please help!!

maybe it was as simple as a loose spark lead... and resetting it was all that was needed..

Had a similar misfire on my MY00 below 3500 ish revs when in traffic etc. The dealer replaced the Lambda sensor which has improved things considerably. Still a bit rough when running from cold but fine once warmed up.

Cheers,

Ian.

Thumbs up

And I had one that turned out to be an intermittent fault on a plug lead.

Thanks Chaps

anyone know the best leads to use and where to get them from?

is it worth changing any sensors as a matter of course at the cars age (30,000 miles)

it has HKS plugs already

we use larkspeed lumenition blues (excellent, from larkspeed)

developed a misfire. pulled off the leads and put them back and the misfire went.
must have been a litle unplugged or something.
