WHAT ? NO OPTIMAX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#1
Got the car back after the wifes shopping trip, Oh what a supprise when i spotted the orange fuel light on.
After phoning her i dicoverd she had drove a round 12/15 mils with it on.
No probs, the lizzie brice garage is only about 1.1/2 miles.
Drove into thr garage to find gound works have closed half the pumps including all optimax.
With a little sweat, i new i could just about make it to polbeth (shell) a further 3 miles up the road.
With some more sweat apearing, i drove with caution the 3 miles needed to fill her with the needed quailty optimax.
Got out the car with a smile etched on my face "Made it"
opened the fuel cap, placed the nozzle in the neck, waited for the pump to kick in " and it did " pressed the trigger to release the golden fuel, AND NOTHING CAME OUT, ZERO , ZILTCH.
Walked upto the desk and said, "your pumps not working" she said " yes it is working but there is no optimax left".
Guess what i had to put into my virgin tank, "UNLEADED".
A POXY FIVERS WORTH OF UNLEADED CONTAMINATION.

My what a cad, it's Lovejoy's Dad.
In pinstripe suit, (those specs a hoot!),
and lilac shirt, he loves to flirt.
He's dapper Dave, the viewers rave.
He charms the punters, those bargain hunters.
All those quips, like "cheap as chips".
Enough of this frivolity we got someone in distress here who put petrol in his car!

I forgot to post this as I was down there on Friday afternoon when they'd started work replacing some of the pumps. I was told we'd have no Optimax for 3 weeks

At least you only had to put a drop of unleaded in. It could have been worse - you could have got the car back with a cheery 'I filled the car up for you, dear' and a tankful of Tesco's cheapest.

Chris, there are two Shell stations in Whitburn m8, one at the far end of the main street and one down at the bottom of the hill from the traffic lights (heading to Armadale) I've never had any problems yet getting it from either of these stations and it's only a couple of miles along the road from you

Not quite sure I see the problem.
The fuel light comes on at 9 litres, at least in my (UK) car, so you'll have to correct me if yours is different. That's around 2 gallons. So, even going by the 15 or 16mpg I get when I am really blatting, that's 30 or so miles, but realistically more than that.
15+(2*1.5)+3 = 21 miles
So by my reckoning, no problem.
Either your fuel light comes on later than mine, or you have a real problem with fuel consumption!

I know I can get 30-miles or more when the light comes on. Problem with me is I've usually driven that before finding out the garage's out of Optimax, doh!
On Monday night, my light came on but I still drove the 20-miles to work the next day. Then drove around some more at lucnhtime before finally driving home via a Shell garage (about 6 miles away). The needle was well below the bottom line when I rolled up to the forecourt. Even then, I was surprised that it only took 56 litres to fill, so I still had some to play with

OK point taken, But i'm not used to driving with the fuel light on, If i thought i could get 30mls from light on, then there would have been no prob.
But as usual, in some of your plight to give your 2 pence worth, you miss the point.
Well done all of you who never mentioned how far you can travel on a fuel light, or the sin of using ul.
the rest of you!!
Go get a life, at least one thats not as serious as the one you living now!

I assume there is a reason for the fuel flap advising 98 RON, perhaps your mate could mix a bit of water in and save a few pence more.
God help the poor sod that buys it after him, no warranty and a large bill.
