Had to make a round trip of 1000 miles over the last 2 days. Did'nt want to put the miles on the Scoob so hired a Golf TDi.
Must admit very impressed, comfy, all the toys, good acceleration, brakes, excellent on the motorway etc.
Until coming home through Glencoe last night when the rain started. Just about sh*t myself a few times as the Golf was not happy taking corners at speeds you would not think would be a problem. You get so used to taking corners without slowing down in the Impreza that you get a bit of a shock in something else. I was'nt hammering it, just that the car did not feel secure on a wet road. Good few buttock clenching exercises were done I can assure you
Any one else find the same?
Alas
PS The damn golf gave me 54mpg over the distance. My wallet enjoyed the rest.

Know what you mean mate, I drove my bosses car once going to Bradford (a 1.8 Turbo Passat). Neally lost it going around the M6 turning for the M62 northbound (long bend that tightens at the end) doing about 45 mph in the dry, it just rolled and understeered like a b*gger.I thought I was a goner and took it a bit steadier from then on. My scooby could have done it at 60 no probs.

Without sounding smart: but why wouldn't you want to put up 1000 miles on one of the best driving cars ever
20mpg rather than 54mpg and trying to find a Shell garage every 200 miles
Noise and suspension is a little too rough for a 1000 mile journey
Security and overnight parking, this would be my major concern
Dont have to clean it when you get home, every car I have had looks a tip inside and out after coming back of holiday .

Unbelievable, you buy an expensive motor car, costs loads to insure and then you leave it at home ? I often drive down South and across to Liverpool and I can tell you its a great feeling to overtake on bends. My best is 97 round one of them in the P1 - truly awesome grip...

Reasons I did'nt take the Scoob are quite simple.
1. It was for work and only insured to go to one place of business
2. Insured to do 12k miles a year, already too close for comfort.
3. Area I was going to had no secure parking.
4. last time I took the Scoob, I had valve caps nicked and alarm told me the car had been tampered with.
5. Have a large dog(9 stone) and as the wife has a Z3, not very practical for her to take him out in the passenger seat.
I live in the highlands so do not find the journey down to the midlands on the motorway all that exciting. The scoob is noisy and has a heavy clutch compared to most cars so is not that good on the motorway or driving round city centres. The car is made for the roads up here.
Enough good reasons
