Has to be said, just looking at TVRGary's thread had me thinking about when I was 1st taken out in a Scoob. THAT feeling - the adrenalin rush. The excitement!!

And that was as a passenger!!!

Been trying to chase the feeling from the driver's side.....can't quite get it though.....

waddya think?? what were all of your experiences like? in fact let's open it up - primarily Impreza experiences, but what about other marques?

Used to produce and program for a rather well-known pop band. They had nice cars - BMW 840s, SL500s, Aston Martin Vantage X-Pak, Porsche turbos, 944 s2, Audi S2, M3, M5, Ferraris.......

Got to be a passenger in all of em, and when the owners were "out of it" even got to drive em!!

The one great experience was driving a brand new BMW 850 blah, blah, blah with the full schnitzer kit - about £80K ish

I remember driving it up the M40 and as I got up to 3 figures, the car just sat on the road!!! stuck like **** to a blanket!!!! fabulous!!!

The Aston was great - 450BHP , but heavy. it had the equivalent of 2pots !!! luxury though!!

My brother, (Andy), first got me inside his first Scoob. It was a green Prodrive special with class N gear box, carbon fibre everywhere and loads of other stuff. I drove a Rover 620SLi in those days and got behind the wheel one winter evening and tried to drive as hard as my brother had just done.

Wow, I am not sure whether the embarasment of crunching the gears or just totally not being prepared for that turbo rush was the most memorable. I must have only done 5 miles, but afterwards whilst the turbo timer was in action on the drive I new then that this was something special.

This was all in 1996 and only last year did I get my first UK Turbo, 12 months on and a P1 and now STi8 PPP under my belt I still get that tingly feeling.

Forgot to mention that after that 1st experience, like others I was driving a much lesser car, I finally got an MY95 UK 5dr in 1999, and then replaced it with my current MY99 back in October.

don't get me wrong, they're great, but I'm constantly chasing that initial passenger experience, but from the drivers side - perhaps I'm too used to it now ......

Rallydrive, Gaisborough. Big Up Howard.
It'd been dry for 6 weeks and absolutely tipped it down that morning, a Caterham had dropped its sump the day before and other cars had squweegeed it all around the circuit. It was like driving in the bottom of a frying pan.
Both me and the G/F had a great day (one of the best). All I could do the 1st time I opened her up was swear, alot (sorry Howard). Managed a 90mph 360 (only spin of the day, sorry again Howard).
The Red Arrows had been there the week before and their times were still on the board, beat all but 1 (g1t). Couldn't quite catch Howard (59.8 vs 58.9) but he has 25 years rallying behind him.
Vowed then I'd get one. It's been 4 years and as the time nears (hopefully MY03 WRX SL PPP) the only downside is I might emmigrate instead.

My first experience of a Scoob, although I never travelled in the car itself, was in Wales during the '95 RAC Rally.

Stopped of at a pub for some food and met some bloke who was travelling to the same stage as us but didn't know the way, so he asked if he could follow as we'd been there before and knew the way!

When we stopped, he accused me of modifying my *very* standard '92 (I think) Escort 1.6 LX (16v)! He claimed the road holding on the corners was far too good for a standard Escort as he was struggling to keep up through the twisties! I think I just took a better line!

---------
First experience in a scooby was the day a took one for a test drive!

Dealer drove the car first and made me smile before letting me loose!

I changed gear far too early (5k? - I was scared to rev it too much) & thought it was really sluggish and was really disapointed (its all relative though - I expected much more!)! I knew the problem was my driving and not the car, so I still placed the order!

First smitten watching the RAC when Colin used to drive one, the 555 works cars looked the coolest.

My first experience driving was an invitation to a subaru day out (ran in a magazine - top gear I think) at the millbrook test track, must have been around 1997. I still remember the fantastic confidence I had with the car on the corners of the alpine circuit.

The highlight though was being driven around the handling circuit by a professional driver, the tyres never stopped squealing, never knew a car could go so fast around a twisty track - awesome feeling, gripping the sides of the bucket seats for dear life

I just hope my 97 was not one of the cars they used - they all got well thrashed

Bought a Sport wagon 3 years ago and that was such a step up compared to 'normal' cars I just knew I had to have a turbo. Got one July last year without even going for a test drive (trusted source). Day I picked it up it was chucking it down and I was too scarred to use its full potential (what a wus I know). Best drive I've had was going to Liverpool from Chesterfield. Took the Cat and Fiddle road from Buxton to Maclesfield. Wow what a run - had some fun with a Lotus Elise (cat and mouse stuff - sorry for the pun). Huge smile on my face that has never been removed. 2nd & 3rd gears are a dream and never stop impressing me.

Just bought my first Scoob a couple weeks ago - a 2004 Impreza WRX sportwagon. The wife insisted I get the "practical" one! Don't tell her what that turbo gauge is for!

The dealer told me to "take it easy" for the first 1000 miles. When I drove it off the lot, the odometer read 40. Those first 1000 were going to be a true test of restraint, but I managed to get through it rather quickly - my commute to work takes me down 100 miles (round trip) of beautiful Pacfic Coast Highway, every day. This morning, the odometer hit 1001, so I took a detour through one of the incredibly twisty canyon roads and put the WRX through it's paces. Simply amazing... I didn't know anything with four wheels could corner like that!

I've had a smile on my face all day! Can't wait for the drive home!

Thats cool - I went over to the states last year and drove down the PCH.

Had my WRX about 3 months now and would love to take it down the PCH - we were in an auto Chevy Cavalier which wasnt exactly an enthralling drive

My first experience was the test drive a few months ago - I was another that hardly pushed the car!!

But once I had mine, and run in, I went to a nice quiet dual carriageway and gave it some welly and tried out a few roundabouts.

I still am driving way way below the potential of the car, but am still blown away with it But my confidence is growing now and I am starting to push it a bit more now (when safe obviously).

Bought a Legacy turbo to replace my crtap Rover 200GTI. Could get over the steering and punch of that engine. The Legacy engine is a bit more gruff than the later boxers. It reminded me of some giant victorian contraption but my god when it got going it was quick.

After a few years I wanted somethign a bit newer and lighter as the Legacy was huge and very heavy. Test drove an R reg Impreza and loved its chuckability that the Legacy lacked. Didn;t like the steering wheel though so ordered a brand new car with some extraa like leather, airtcon, sunroof etc ( W Reg).

Love the car to bits its great. Driving to work is just a reward for working hard and saving for a year to buy the car. Quite frequently scare myself with how much grip the car has and the speeds corners can be taken.

Car was recently stolen but recovered and all being put back to near perfection as very little damage was done. Should have her back tomorrow.

My previous car was a TR7V8, so I was not overly impressed by the power delivery and all that gear-changing intially!

However, the punch off the line and the grip levels - especially in the wet, combined with comparative luxury sold it to me.

Previously I'd been considering a TVR Chimaera. Glad I didn't go down that route. I was a contractor at the time, and if I didn't get to work I didn't get paid.

Fastest accelerating car I have been in ..... Friends 337BHP Tommy Mak Evo .... neck breaking.

Best fun .... Pulling out onto a piece of dual carriage way near my house. No slip road so its standing start time. The other car is coming along at about 80MPH and pulls into the outside lane to let me pull out. I pull out and nail it up to about 100MPH or so, a few seconds later im overtaking the car and the look on the drivers face is a picture, kinda a ''where the hell did you come from '' look........Makes me chuckle everytime and the hairs stand up on the back of me neck

Mine was a memorable experience,

I was 19 going on 20 (almost 23 now) and I was taken out in a P1 by a guy from my local(ish) dealer. He pulled out from the forcourt into the stream of traffic and I was like, 'Cool, I'm in a P1' Then we went through the centre of the town the dealers garage is in, first thing i noticed? All the sexy young women eye me up, I quickly worked it out, They were eyeing the car up. I was thinking 'Cool, I'm in a P1 and all these hot babes are looking at it as we go past, I so want one!'

Then the guy stopped (Nice clear road) I look at him as if to say 'Why have you stopped?!?!' when he engaged first and floored it!

My impression? 'SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!! Internal organs being compacted into jellied lumps'

It was ace!

Mine was the first test drive - I'd borrowed one for an hour, and made my way to some decent roads, and was loving the noise, the seats, the driving position, the view of the bonnet scoop and the big wing in the mirror, but I found myself caught behind some cyclists on a thin bit of road...

The defining moment was when the road opened up into a long, wide, straight. I m-s-m'd and floored it, as one did when overtaking in my old 306 TD...

Firstly, I'd never experienced acceleration like that outside a plane, and secondly I glanced in my mirrors at the rapidly receding cyclists, to realise that the dust on the centre of the road, where I'd overtaken, was now a massive rally-style dustcloud...

I was smitten, although feeling a little bit guilty about sandstorming the cyclists - I'm sure they understood though...

I bought my first scoob before I'd even driven one

I'd wanted one for ages and finally had enough cash saved up when I was 21. Went to look at a MY96 private sale and was gobsmacked when I saw it up close with 17" prodrive wheels.

The seller took me and the missus out for a quick spin and I was speechless, knew I had to have it and said I'd be back in 2 days with the cash and a mechanic to check it over (I think the seller thought I was a messer given my age) but I did go back and buy it.

Slightly regret not holding out a bit longer and getting a 97 with bucket seats but I was impatient and decided that I couldn't wait any longer (and I put a set of leather buckets in later anyway )

Never forget that first trip in the car, only one thing comes close and that was when my friend chucked me the keys to his E46 M3

Same here.

I first got to drive a scoob (which incidentally was the one I bought) back in July 2000. When test driving the car, I told the garage owner that I daren't take it over 30 - one press of the right pedal and we were flying!!!! I was hooked.
Have loved them ever since.
