One major thing you missed off which you will defo need for reliabilty is an ECU/remap..!!! either LINK, ECUTEK, MOTEC, APEXI power FC...e.t.c

I think standard the STI's 276bhp and 22B are the most powerful, apparantly some of the later STI's came with 300ps or 296bhp standard, but this is on jap 100+RON fuel..

There are few people on this boads with the mods you mentioned who have 340bhp+ (and this is from a UK car) but you may need to consider bigger injectors, fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator too...

Best people to get answers from are, in no particular order

Bob rawle ---- www.brdevelopments.com
R19 KET ---- www.lateralperformance.co.uk
john banks
AndyF
pat
pavlo
harvey
Mr wallis

e.t.c....e.t.c

Dan

Good afternoon,

I am new to Subaru Impreza's and i am hoping that you may find a minute to help me with some questions.

1. Which type of impreza would be the most powerfull and most tunable(uk,jap import, wrx,sti,B22, etc ?)

2. What power increase should i hope to get from the following modds if it
is on
A. Uk 220bhp car
B. Jap import ???bhp( sti,wrx etc)

HKS hyper exhaust system(no cats), HKS Racing induction kit, HKS spark plugs, HKS front mounted intercooler, HKS EVC5 boost controller.

3. As i am looking to have around flywheel 350+bhp, can you recommend
anything to help get this and make it reliable.

4. Any information on tuning imprezas would be grate.

Many thanks in advance

Nev

I have been looking around on this site and gathered the folloing info. (can you correct me if it is not correct)

I should get an import 96 WRX 2 door which should have 260ish bhp.
and if i get the following i should have 350+ bhp easy.

hks or td05 turbo, hks FMIC, HKS down/uppipe exhaust, hks induction kit, 550 injectors, uprated fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator,

The next bit im not sure about

Ecutek remap, with around 1.6/1.8bar boost OR EVC5 boost controller

Seems ok.

Dont forget with all the mods you will probably need to think about better brakes, clutch, watch you dont race it to much and gearbox goes! lol

Why not go for a sti around a 97/98 which will have 280 or 300bhp standard. Put a exhaust system (decat such as HKS) and front mount and a remap ecu and you will be near 350 anyway.

You dont have to always go bigger turbo or boost controller. Get along to the drivetrain and check some of the results there.

Also have a look at the top of the page and click dyno. You can get some ideas from there

oh dear me. don't believe everything you read.

remember the phrase "a little knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge at all". 350bhp reliably, if only it were that easy.

Point 1 there's no such thing as a 2 door 96 car.

Point 2 a 96 WRX would already have a TD05 on it.

Point 3 if you want bigger injectors you will need to ditch the standard ecu either with a Link or similar or a remap from Mr Wallis

Point 4 ECUtek is only available for 99 onwards cars

Point 5 running at 1.6-1.8 bar of boost you would be wise to use lot of octane booster or uprated internals or your engine will probably last about 15 miles

Point 6 you'll also need safety devices such as a lambdalink, knocklink and EGT gauge to warn you of any impending disaster

point 7 Dan, why am I not on your list

My honest advice to you mate is first decide WHICH car to go for, based on your budget, insurance etc. and THEN decide what you are going to do to it, as there are subtle differences between each of the models and the best route for each type of car will be different.

AFTER you've got the car and insured it, you will be much better disposed to see how much is left in the kitty for modding. And you will need a pretty bloody big kitty for a reliable 350bhp, I can tell you.

Cheers

Rich

7k will get you a decent N or P plate UK turbo.

Just get one with full service history if you can

My 340bhp UK turbo 97 was bought 2 years ago bog standard (208bhp) with fsh for 9K.

Shop around and take someone with you who knows about Scoobs if possible.

Cheers

I work in the import business so i think that i should be able to get a nice 97 sti impreza for about the money i want to pay.

I am not to worried bout the insurance as it will only do bout 3k miles a year so will be cheaper.

I also work very closely with sumo power, so i can also get all the tuning parts at a good discounted price.

Can i ask exactly what u have had done to get 340 bhp from your uk car, as i have seen uk cars very cheap and the insurance will be even cheaper also.

You will get a good dicounted price mate but you will still spend a fortune.

I get discount on various performance parts and products and have saved myself a small fortune. BUT, it still costs money!

Uks are low bhp in the beginning so to get one to 340 is bloody good!

340 isn't cheap believe me.

There's quite a few people with UK Turbos with this kind of power and more, John Banks, Alan G, Dave Wallis, P20SPD etc.

There are many ways to go about it and everyone has different views. My route on the 97 basically consisted of:

Induction, full decat, fuel pump, bigger turbo, fuel cut defender, boost controller, silicon inlet, bigger intercooler, knocklink, lambdalink, EGT gauge, Iridium plugs etc. etc. But different cars require slightly different approaches. I have 2 uk cars, both with over 340bhp achieved by completely different methods.

Cheers

well, theres one list that i have seen thats capable...

I am looking at the big 350 aswell, my planned mods are as follows...

STi V3 Engine
Scoobysports d/pipe
full magnex free flow system
JR Dry filter
1.8 Bar / 2.0 bar Overboost map
Usual saftey sensors (knocklink e.t.c)
Usual iridium sparkplugs, decenty leads e.t.c
Uprated walsbro fuel pump
pressure reg (if needed)
might get an AFC and AVC-R for fine tuning of the mapping

The VF23 (??) is gonna be running outa puff shortly, so a F/E TD05 will be making its way here.

Hopefully with that spec i will be looking at around 350 BHP.
