Whenever we drive over to the UK we go to Calais and get the SeaCat. Used to do this from Ostend but Sealink have since dropped this service. Usually manage about 5 hours door to door (Utrecht --> Near Bluewater in Kent).

Roads are indeed fast but French petrol stations that take non-French cards are few and far between on Bank Holidays so be aware.

Roads from Amsterdam to Calais easy to do.

Try www.ferry.co.uk or SeaCat were doing a promotion I think, however when I used it a fortnight a go the sea was very rough and not an experience I'd like to repeat too often.

Andy.
