Have just put this in a post in the for sale section aswell -
Woke up at 3 in the morning to hear a car outside my house, didn't think anything of it until my car alarm went off. Looked out the window and then charged downstairs but they had gone by the time I was out side. No marks on the car at all so not sure what they were trying.
Not looking forward to sleeping tonight

Sorry to hear, at least the car is still there tho. Be very careful next time, the chances are they will try and get your car keys by either breaking into the house or they may wait until you come outside again!! obviously they were checking the security fitted to your vehicle.
Hope they dont come back

Yeah I hope so too. I only have one set of key's in the house, I keep the spare set at my bro in laws. He lives in a massive house with big electric irons gates etc so I think they are safe there.
I think the reason they got scared off last nigh is cos I have a rotweiller and it was going mad.
They may try to brake into my house but I guess they'd have to kill my dog first

Scary stuff!
I hate it how low-life scum can make us feel uncomfortable and paranoid in our own homes!
I am so glad that I am lucky enough to be able to lock mine up in my garage....at least it is out of sight from passers-by and they have to get the other car out of the way of the garage before they can get in!

If you've got a house alarm with wireless PIR sensors ,get an extra one and put it in the car (if it will work from that distance ) if they break in again they should wake up the whole street ! scum bags .On a lighter note they may have been a couple of 12 year olds who have got bored with their beanie babies and decided to nick an old Fiesta. Seeing your car they probably thought they would 'part ex' the Fiesta but are so thick they didn't realise Scoobys have good alarms ! Hopefully they won't bother to return .
Hang the scum!
All the best, and good luck .
Dave.

Like that idea TVRGary - not sure I'll try it though.
Thing is I also try park another car nose to nose with my one so mine is blocked in at the top of the drive.
Who knows but I'm just praying they don't try again.... Maybe I should chain my dog to one of the car spokes for the night now that would be a sight!

I can't beleive peoples complacency. You've got a desirable motor, and a garage, but you dont use it. I bet you tell your insurance that you use the garage to get quote down (unless it's L&V), but if you don't use it (like so many) it should count as fraud. Priority no.1 on my next house is a garage, and I can't wait for the peace of mind, and the cheaper insurance.
Sorry to hear about your trouble, but come on, you're asking for it when there's no need.
(Rant/preach mode off)

Put a simple note on the window.
-------------------------------------------------------
Smile you are on camera.
This car has a tracking device and is booby trapped.
If you survive stealing the car, you will be
tracked down and you will have to surive my rotweiller,
that you can now hear barking, ripping your face off
while I break your legs.
You can now make an informed judgement.

Buy a remote night vision camera, for sale in a good electronic shop. You can attach it to your pc and record everything like it's in daylight.
I just installed a set of 2 camera's in my garage and driveway.
There as big as a tennis ball and you can hang'm 5 meters high so nobody can touch them.
Also consider a sensitive halogen light that goes on when somebody enters.
I cost about 20 £ for the light and 50£ for one camera.
The camera use the hard drive as a storage so you can erase every day . Will cost you almost nothing , and you can sleep again.
Creepy

If you're gonna get a PIR halogen light, I recommend one with an audible alert. Got mine @ B&Q £30, get a warning chime as soon as anyone enters garden, 24hrs day or night. Transmits on 3 channels so you can have a few of them. Could be dodgy with the dog though.

I'd just get lots of security lighting and CCTV (even a dummy camera) so if anyone comes up the drive they'll be lite up like a christmas tree.
If you are going to put the Scooby in the garage, fit a door contact on the garage door, if you have windows in the garage fit window locks, and to be totally OTT you could fit a PIR with break glass.
Do you have a steering lock, i got one from Halfords, its big and yellow over the steering wheel jobbie, costs £60 from memory.
Good luck

i hate hearing about things like this, really pisses me off when people try to take things that you have worked hard for, what right do they have to be anywhere near your car.
admire from a distance yes, get to close and be suspicious and set the alarm off no no no no no no
little b@st@rds, if they come back mate feed them to your dog because the police wont do much about it.

Try Axis Communications at
http://www.axis.com/products/cam_rec_software/index.htm
They do several security cameras which can be triggered by movement and record to your PC hard disk. Not sure on price but certainly cheaper than losing your car.
Alternatively try cheese wire across the driveway at neck height and then see the w***ers suffer!!

sold my p1 after they broke into my house while on holiday even though the house was occupied.now i drive the most boring mondeo in the world 0-60 in a week top speed not possible as there isnt a road that long and crapbox stereo worth 5p.work like a dog and then wait for someone to try to steal it.more police patrols on the street instead of hidden in lay bys waiting to clock u at 2mph over the limit might be nice.police didnt come till 2hrs later after my break in as they were no longer on the scene..sorry rant over And i have picked my dummy back up

I don't have a garage.....Paranoid? Who? Me? Who you looking at?
Now....where did I put my baseball bat?????
Makes you think doesn't it?
I read an ad for a P1 for sale the other day, and the seller insisted on meeting any interested parties at a neutral location. You can see why, sensible lad!

isn't i sad that we drive round being harressed by 4000 speed camera's every day plus all the congestion charge camera's and security cctv and pay our Tax's and then live in fear because we own a car for which we have worked hard for. Yet when we say that car theft is a problem the Police just ignore this and put up more speed traps.

corradoboy what use is a garage really? Driving around looking for a car it might reduce the chances of it getting nicked. But if theyve seen the car around and followed him home, which thieves do with rarer cars how hard do you think your garage is to get into. Then when theyre in it theyre in a nice secluded dry spot to break into your car and disarm the alarm without anyone seeing.
