I can only find 4 door RA models, the lightweight models, no 2 door ones. Were any made?

Thanks

Do you know the weights of a 97 Version IV type R and a Version IV RA 4 door, please? I am wondering how much lighter an RA 4 door is compared to a R type 2 door. Adding doors usually adds quite a bit of weight.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi John, thanks for the welcome. Are you the chap I got the Grtoup C rear wing for? Did you manage to use it?

I'm running my 1996 Dallara F3 this year, but am here scouting out some info for a pal. All these models, and he's asking about Mitsubishi Lancer EVO's too...Does your head in!

Which Subaru do you think would make the best track day car? Graham Goode said today to avoid the version 5, and go for a version 4, as the engine is more tuneable. He fancies a 2 door, and I have to agree they look better than a 4 door.

When's your first race? I want to come and watch some of the GT's this year, is the carbon fibre Stratos running this season?

I'm getting off topic, catch you later.

I can tell you what the difference is on a V6 version.

STi Version 6 RA = 1240 KG
WRX Version 6 RA = 1210 KG
STi Version 6 R = 1260 KG

I suspect the differences would be similar on the early ones.

Thanks for that Ian, that should be near enough, a worthwhile weight saving. Cheers.

What, don't any of you play Gran Turismo?

Strangely enough, the difference between a Type R and an RA is about 30 pounds in the RA's favor. Even stranger, an STI-V 4d and an STI-R V 2d is only different by about 20 pounds (in the coupe's favor). I wonder the same thing - where does all the door hardware weight go? Even more confusing, EVO magazine claims the 4-door drives much better than the coupe. Anyone here driven both STI's, same version number, both stock?

Bottom line: RA is lightest, lighter than any of the coupes. There is no coupe RA, there is a V-limited coupe with a roof vent, though!

Even more bizarre, even though my eyes tell me different, the 2-door and the 4-door have the exact same dimensions, in and out, and have the same profile. The only reason the coupe looks sleeker is because it has one less seam running down each side.

Hi chris, we used it for a couple of races but it was a bit too high speed config for us.

We managed to get an F1 carbon wing which works better on the UK tracks.

Check out the March/April 2000 issue of Japanese Performance magazine. It has a description of all of the different Impreza breeds.

Cool

Roger,

Are you sure it wasn't a type R coupe you saw? If subaru are producing 2 door RA cars, it must be a recent change in the model range.

I drove both a 4 door STI 4 and the 2 door back to back before making my decesion to go with the 2 door as I prefered the more rearward bias to the handling.

When the Car magazine article was being done for the Jan 2000 edition the 2 people writing the story both said that the 2 door cars seem to handle better than the 4 doors as the shell just seems to be stiffer.

The Type R and RA are both more rearward biased on the power delivery which helps alot on the track and the road as you dont have as much of an understeer problem which some people seem to be putting alot of effort into trying to get rid of from their cars.
